A brilliant sunset with light rays beaming gloriously off in all directions from the center of the frame, silhouettes of the pines on the horizon which seem to stop the light from fanning out any further beyond its current arc. There is a bright streak across the sky where the clouds are catching the light, and a hawk or a falcon was captured in the frame seemingly following the streak like a path or a trail.

...who have struggled at A-Level. It is a difficult time in young people's lives and many face challenges Mr Tickell may never have encountered and can't imagine. I had been considering making a donation to the University in the near future but am now disinclined to do so."

Vice-chancellor calls for review into student loans for those without A-levels Adam Tickell, of University of Birmingham, says money is loaned to people who ‘are not really capable of graduating’

Boilerplate email copy to UoB alumni team if other former students would like share similar views.

I note UoB now also have a Dubai campus. Can't imagine they are supporting the severely underprivileged part of the population there either.

Contact us Main contact page for the University of Birmingham. Contact information for key departments around the University. Details of how to contact the University of Birmingham by phone, email or post.

It was difficult to track down an email address for the alumni team... sharing here in case anyone else would like to contact them that way:

alumnioffice@contacts.bham.ac.uk

Post or phone call or a funnel that send you round the houses are the other options they offer for getting in touch.

Education changed my Dad’s life opportunities, and as a result my own. He studied as a scholarship student at one point in his educational journey which made all the difference. He went on to teach, lecture, author academic books and become an arts correspondent.

And there’s Keith whose career went from coal miner to access course to professor of history. Adam Tickell wouldn’t have wanted either of them.

Spot on 🧵

I've seen education transform peoples lives. People this chap would gladly leave behind. People I bump into who tell me how improved their lives are since I worked with them on Access to HE courses at an FE College in Bristol.

As well as clarifying the bursary payment is renewed for each year of study and therefore opening up studying there as an option for less wealthy students, I surfaced regional variation for Scottish applicants which was previously buried and inaccessible.

These “tweaks” can and do have real impact.

I was proud to work on improving University of Cambridge’s bursary information a few years ago with that personal experience in mind.

Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM

Ocean Equity Index aims to measure justice at sea Ocean projects and governance systems abound globally— everything from offshore energy to coastal aquaculture and fishing treaties — yet there is no standardized way to measure how equitable they…

Researchers have developed an Ocean Equity Index to measure how fair ocean initiatives are across 12 criteria.

The tool can be used by governments, companies and Indigenous or community groups, and its authors hope it gains global traction.

Experts note equity remains difficult to quantify.

Getting excited about my next trip to Germany this May! Will be visiting family and friends in Frankfurt area plus Karlsruhe and Augsburg. The Black Forest and Neuschwanstein Castle are happening too! Keen to purchase a cuckoo clock, even though it's something said family and friends disparage. 🏰🌲🌲
