Whether it works or not is extremely relevant
Nice, you learn something everyday! It seems our connections were even closer than I thought. 😉
Of course, I like this a lot, but why would it help your homesickness?
Great points. Even without seeing the data, I wonder how much control google will have simply by creating this dependency. I wonder if Apple will be in a position in the future to swap them out for something else if they wish to.
If weapons can reliably be disabled remotely, this also dramatically changes the moral implications of selling them. Governments could justify selling them to any scoundrel on the grounds that they can disable improper use later.
I’m not sure this is technically possible — are there documented cases? You would need to engineer a mechanism that the purchaser could not sabotage once in possession of the weapon.
@gruber.foo Is it not better to address Musk’s point, rather than speculate on what he would do in the same position? (Even though I think your speculation is probably correct)
I stopped using Instagram at least a year or two ago but I still have the account. Someone keeps trying to reset my password.
So much more satisfied with Coros over Garmin. Software is more reliable, the UI design and UX is a lot better, useful new features get delivered via firmware updates quite regularly. The Pace 3 is much lighter than the Fenix 6 I had as well and doesn’t seem to have any disadvantages.
What do you mean by a “unit integration test”?
I want the finest mikans known to humanity. I want them here and I want them now.
It seems like the abstraction layer could be repositioned so that the platform retains control of sensitive data, keeps it private, and at the same time offers the same functionality equally across third party accessories.
@gruber.foo Regarding the sharing of wifi networks with peripherals, why doesn’t Apple share the functionality with third party devices, rather than the network data? Is it possible to create an API function for “connect to WiFi” that gives the functionality without sharing the data?
@gruber.foo Best wishes on your personal situation from a long-time reader.
Need to do a long training run today before my trail race on 9/6, but it’s going to be crazy hot so I’m on the 5:24 train to get started early. Thought it would be mostly empty, but it is NOT. Struggled to get a seat!
Using the Books app to read a Dickens novel and I think it might be the most pleasant and well-designed app by Apple that I’ve seen. The team behind it deserves praise.
This month the money I received from selling electricity to the grid from solar panels was more than the money I paid for electricity. Happy about that.
Happy for Dan but kind of feel like I would sell stock in Bluesky if I had any.
Low intensity exercise in large volume. Heart rate between 100-120bpm for at least an hour almost every day, preferably in the sunshine, has been a life changer.
Pretty amazing that I can commute to Nagoya from Tokyo. Apart from the clouds, pretty good view of Fuji!
I’ve watched Totoro about a thousand times with my kids (who are Japanese). When I read this, it blew my mind. Definitely my favourite animated film of all time. www.tofugu.com/japan/totoro...
Since my subscription to Dashlane expired, they've been sending me a lot of notifications and emails trying to get me to come back. They've offered 30% discounts, which I would assume is still 20% more than what I was paying before.
If you're willing to put your OTP credentials somewhere else, which is probably a good idea security-wise, Bitwarden is free for personal use.
Was using @dashlane.com for several years, paying 4,300 yen a year through the App Store. Apple sends me an email saying the price is more than *doubling* to 9,000. No email or explanation from Dashlane. So I switched to Bitwarden, $10 a year. Tried Apple Passwords (free) but couldn't import OTP.
Donation to Wikipedia incoming. Hopefully this will drive a surge in giving. Always respected the way that its founder Jimmy Wales kept it as as not-for-profit and did not seek billionaire status - unlike, well, Musk…
Had exactly the same reaction.
Broke my heart when I found out about that. Read almost all of his books at least twice.
I was wondering if it was a feature of your ebook reader. Maybe it was a highlight or something. But I see that the source material is like that — interesting! Thank you!
