There is no war on cars What I’ve experienced is no matter how great the pedestrian and cycling infrastructure is, or how incredibly developed the transit system is, there are still lots of cars.

Not this again, Calgary. To the city councillors and UCP cabinet ministers that go back to this well over and over again: stop lying to people. There is no war on cars and you know it. #yyc #yyccc #abpoli #ableg

I consider people who say we can’t do this or we can’t do that to be counter to Canadian/Albertan/Calgarian culture, at least according to their own personal views. We figured out how to separate oil from sand. They’re proud of the things we created. But we can’t do socialism? Ya right.

A lot of courses are electives by the time we hit Grade 11, like law was for me. Just have fewer electives.

It’s been a long time since I was in high school and that was in Ontario. But as I understand it, topics around law and civics are more sprinkled in throughout the curriculum rather than being their own courses. I think we need that semester-long focus to truly build that foundation of knowledge.

Everyone needs to take a Canadian law class, especially Danielle Smith An introduction to Canadian law should be a compulsory high school credit in every province. In the past, I would have said it’s important for kids growing up to understand their basic rights, espe…

I think we can all agree we could learn some more practical stuff in high school. This is made very obvious by our glorious premier when she says dumb things like appointing judges who are more govt friendly. That’s not how it works, Danielle! #ableg #abpoli

Thanks for sharing my writing and great list! I’d add something related to media literacy. Maybe it takes over Grade 11 English. Financial literacy would be another.

It’s bad enough that Danielle Smith’s referendum BS will divide non-immigrants and immigrants. The part I hate more is how it’ll inevitably pit immigrants who did it β€œthe right way” against those who are doing it β€œthe wrong way”.

Disgusting leadership by the Government of Alberta. #abpoli #ableg

Hey it’s me, a racialized person born in Alberta to an immigrant parent, with trans and queer friends, saying that the UCP does not get to determine who belongs here. All of us, and the Albertans yet to come, deserve to be here. And we must stand with Indigenous people to honour treaty promises.

The Alberta government spent $70 million to get medicine that couldn’t be used, couldn’t be given away, and then was ultimately destroyed which cost $718,000. It also cost $478,000 to store. Tell me again how the UCP is the party of fiscal responsibility?

Vote them out!!

This line sums up Danielle Smith and the UCP quite neatly: β€œThe judge called the move to change the legislation antithetical to the rule of law and democracy.” #abpoli #ableg

You are probably not a fiscal conservative A conversation with a new acquaintance finally helped me articulate something that had been stewing in my brain for years: what does it mean to be fiscally conservative vs. fiscally responsible. Th…

I hear people say they’re a fiscal conservative all the time but I don’t think they really are. There’s no time get into it while doorknocking, especially since I’m not a candidate myself. So I’ve gathered my thoughts and put it down in writing. #yyc #abpoli #ableg

Let’s be clear on this: Danielle Smith is ripping up the Charter of Rights & Freedoms to take away rights from the most vulnerable people in Alberta. And she’s doing it to protect herself from the militant wing of her own party, nothing more. Hope it’s all she’s ever remembered for in the long run

How high are the stakes really? The UCP has never demonstrated that there’s an incredible amount of children getting gender treatment forced on them by doctors that justifies taking away Charter rights. I don’t think they’ve even shown one doctor doing that. It’s pure fearmongering. #ableg #abpoli

Likewise the NHL banned all special jersey nights just to target Pride nights.

We’re really raising a stink about flag-raisings? To be totally blunt, this β€œemergency” notice of motion to end the raising of foreign flags at Calgary’s city hall is peak white supremacy. Yep, I said it. I don’t like to play that card and almost …

Did I raise the specter of white supremacy in writing this? Sure did! Dozens of flag-raisings happen annually and nobody bats an eye. But when the Palestinian community finally gets its turn, everybody loses their minds. #yyc

Everything about this election was awful I’m not referring to the results. I’m referring to all the ways the UCP government changed how our municipal elections work to quote them β€œstrengthen democracy” and things were objectiv…

I wrote much of this the morning after election day, after I spent four hours scrutineering at the Elections Calgary counting centre. Ten days later, I can officially say the entire election process was unnecessarily messy and needs a lot of fixing. #yyc #abpoli #ableg

A couple weeks ago, I had a discussion with some gentlemen who were upset about the mayor "ramming through" blanket rezoning in Calgary against their wishes. I wonder how they feel about the UCP ramming through a back to work order and new contract on teachers. #yyc #ableg #abpoli

That only means the end of Danielle Smith, which isn't good enough. The entire UCP needs to be launched into space with no chance of ever coming back.

We thought crossing the floor as the Leader of the Official Opposition and then losing her nomination race for re-election would be the end of Danielle Smith's political career but here we are.

All the UCP’s changes to municipal elections made the election worse. It was actually awful. The counting centre was chaotic despite all the best efforts of the workers. It took 4 hours to count only the mayor’s advance votes. By the same time in 2021, we knew the full council results. #yyc #yyccc
