Reading my first Danielle Steel in over a decade: 'A Mother's Love'. She's gently but intricately woven domestic abuse in, as a real - and not fictional - issue. This line got me:
"The goal at the shelter was to break the cycle that kept the women trapped in abusive relationships forever."

Wow! Just learned something new while attending a friend's British citizenship ceremony in Manchester.
That Emmeline Pankhurst was also a Registrar of Births and Deaths [in Manchester]. L

They don't call them war these days. Between two friends, one says his is, 'Special Military Operation'; but the other went with 'Operation Epic Fury'!
Wildly enough neither friend's camps agree with the other's fancy Operations based on justice. Justice, you ask?

In that interview, @heidialexander.bsky.social spent time attacking other parties than setting out what her govt WILL ACTUALLY do, like on transport - her own portfolio - which is holding people back and making lives difficult in towns and regions beyond London and the major cities.

Listening to @heidialexander.bsky.social on BBC Radio 4 earlier this morning, it's clear that Keir Starmer and his cabinet are complacent, tone-deaf, convinced they know best and take the electorate for fools. Same arrogance displayed by the Tories just two years ago.

Beyond Accessibility session need to happen more at other industry conferences. Though I missed Tobe Amadi's presentation, the focus on usabililty aspect by @anicazeyen.bsky.social's presentation is on point. Open Access tends to miss these issues.

Pleased to hear the activities going on in my native #Nigeria to advance Open Access within, and using local contexts. Well done, Fatimah Jibril Abduldayan frm Nigerian Maritime Uni. With @wacren.bsky.social involved, sure its replicating across West Africa.

This. Here. Is the crux of the matter!
Scholars while being the main recipient - or victims - of most decisions in the scholarly communication space, are at the same time, the least involved in co-creating these frameworks that impact them.

Mark Carden announces a transition process for #R2RConf in preparation for retirement. SKS Knowledge Services, run by Tiberius Ignat will carry it forward.
This is what great and sustainable leadership is: recognising when to step off with a clear succession plan. Congrats, Mark!

There surely is a way to have that conversation but no one seems interested to... It is good practice to recognise public contributors, especially when their labour could be far greater than the scholars who'd put it together.
Sadly, every context can be exploited.

Thank you for asking your question. I was getting up the confidence to ask a very similar question. Really important to avoid excluding public contributors and other voices from authorship.

Keynote speaker, Dr Leslie McIntosh raises a critical issue about authorship: "who qualifies to be an author?" This irks me because a definition based on formal scholarship will result in discrimination against communities for their labour and contributions.
