I did enjoy Strong Townsβ€”conceptually at leastβ€”but the writing wasn’t great.

Does anyone have any book recommendations?

I just finished Walden, Trust, and Strong Towns.

I liked Walden, but I’m more of an urban youngster lol!

I really loved Part 1 and 3 of Trust, but not the format of 2 or 4. Very much enjoyed the quality writing and the art deco/roaring 20s plot.

Definitely! It’s a little early for hot coco, but just in time for apple cider!

Now all I need is a good book… :)

Really loving the fall rain in Milwaukee today!

Is this due to overhead costs? Why is it so cheaper online!

I’m not saying that intervention can’t be effectiveβ€”it has an will continue to be successful; I am concerned about the implications of the government picking winners and losers.

I don’t think β€œdirecting it” is the most effective way, but I think that there should be funding and support from the federal level for innovations.

Something I’ve wondered is if we were to get to a nearly autonomous manufacturing sector, would that be better?

I really like this quote!

Who is that quote from?

I’ve really enjoyed this conversation and I wish that all of my social media interactions were this greatβ€”and I’m very excited to believe that this might possible be the future of BlueSky. I hope nothing but the best for you!

Yea, I’ve never liked when people compare MAGA to Naziβ€”I think it gives them more power and allows people to label liberals as over dramatic and out of touchβ€”but I think there are legitimate comparisons, I just think it is ironic and foolish to then say that Democrats should follow that playbook.

I am very sorry to hear that. If it is any consolation, I don’t think they will succeed in getting their wishlist.

I think it is important to acknowledge that we are coming at this from very different perspectives and experiences, but that we both have the same goal of helping people.

I agree that scapegoat is a better word.

Not to be dramatic, but the most famous case of scapegoating were the Jews in Nazi Germany. I think that led, in part, to Hitler’s rise, and I think there are lessons that can be learned, but I don’t think it is wise to emulate.

I don’t think his success is replicable, or even worth attempting to replicate, but I truly don’t know.

I’m not really worried about that. I am a white male who will get a master’s, so I’m coming from a position of privilege, but also I really think he is just a populist with centrist policies with conspiracist undertones. We made it through the first Trump term and I have faith we will again.

Do you propose billionaires as the enemy? I worry that might backfire with young man as they foolishly think they too will find themselves in the top tax bracket.

The demographic I think is most reachable is young latino males. I think they might be over represented in witnessing poor governance.

I mean I blame Bill Clinton for bringing us to this point with globalization. But trying to undo globalization now is not a good idea and will likely just make things worse.

I think this helps explain the large swings in NYC and California that aren’t seen in New Mexico and Coloradoβ€”they have better local governance.

So, I don’t think that the Republicans won because they are more β€˜in-touch’ with the average voter, but because the average voter is witness to failing public schools, violence, poverty, and crumbling infrastructure in Democrat run citiesβ€”all while being told that the economy is great.

17.11.2024 02:19 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I don’t believeβ€”or don’t want to believe, truthfullyβ€”that having an enemy is the solution. I think good governance on the local level is the best way to gain support at the federal level. And it is an open secret that the Democrats tend to suck at local governance.

Not to be all like β€œthe Democrats did everything right and still lost,” but there has been a global trend against incumbent liberal parties.

17.11.2024 02:19 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

They being Trump?

I don’t think the Democrats really advertised the ACA in the way that the OP was suggesting.

I think talking about macro makes the Democrats seem out of touch…for better or worse.

transit costs are constantly the biggest obstacle to transit expansion 😭

it’s difficult to express concisely in a way that the average voter will understand and remember imo

β€œthey will take away your healthcare, your home, and everything you’ve worked for” resonated better methinks

I really like #1, but I would worry about double parking along Water.
