Research Offices Ask for Extension on Admissions Survey With less than a month before data is due, 81 percent of institutions recently surveyed say they are still working to collect and submit the required information.

Institutional researchers are asking for three more months to try to retroactively create data on admissions that will likely violate privacy standards and represents a massive expansion in the size of the federal footprint in higher ed.

I love data, but retroactive data won't be useful.

Is there an alumni group for IES-funded PhD’s?

IES supposedly funded over 1000 PhDs, of which I am apparently one of the last. With the training grants dying, it’d be great to have a formal alumni network where we could share jobs, grant opportunities, etc.

Real data-driven folks understand that all measurements contain error.

Javascript code for a noncentral t cdf produced by Claude. It is simply a call to the normal CDF, which is not correct (though will be a decent approximation with large N).

I've been testing Claude to see how well it can "vibe out" a stat. power app that I've already coded completely myself - so I know what I want. It mostly gets things right with animations (those are easily verifiable) but looking into the backend stats code is nightmare inducing (see pic).

When Congress enacted limits on presidential power in 1973, it included an enforcement provision. If the president said there’s an “emergency from attack” and Congress disagreed, it could order troops home.
