This photo is stunning: snowy landscape, a thin crescent Moon glowing with an orange halo, and two bright dots nearby – Jupiter shining strong, Saturn fainter. Twilight sky in soft purple and pink tones, feels almost unreal, pure magic.
They call it a “triple conjunction” because from down here on Earth the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn look super close together… even though out in space they’re ridiculously far apart!

This nice pic from Alireza Vafa shows a triple conjunction of Moon, Jupiter & Saturn, captured through clouds in the wintry twilight, over the Alborz Mountains in Iran after sunset on Dec 17, 2020. 🔭

Graphic about a deep space view with a big galaxy front and center—kinda elliptical with spiral vibes—in dark blues, purples, and indigo. Bright yellow-orange core in the middle. Black background full of tiny light specks like distant galaxies or stars, giving that early Big Bang universe feel. Pretty abstract and mysterious overall.

The image captured by the Hubble telescope shows a cosmic scene with clouds of gas and dust in the Large Magellanic Cloud, reminiscent of cotton candy for their lightness and texture. The clouds have an ethereal and filamentary shape, with soft and irregular edges that intertwine fluidly, creating an effect of movement and depth.
The dominant colors are bright and contrasting hues: shades of intense pink, greenish-blue mix with touches of red and orange. These hues give a vibrant and surreal appearance, with lighter areas that seem to glow against dark patches. The distribution of colors is varied, with gradual transitions and points of light that accentuate the three-dimensionality of the clouds.

This MIRI's image shows a close-up view of the spiral galaxy NGC 2566. Its core is a round and intensely bright spot, circled by eight long spikes that are artefacts of the JWST's structure. Its disc is an oval shape with edges made of very thick and cloudy arms of gas and dust, predominantly blue but paler and brighter around patches of stars.

The image is an illustration depicting a supernova explosion releasing a large amount of energy and having a reddish color.
The ejected material propagates in space in the form of an almost spherical ‘bubble’. The presence of a powerful “central engine” powers two jets of material that propagate at speeds close to that of light.

A clusters of stars against a mainly dark sky with some moonbeams.

From Wikipedia: One of the nearest open clusters to Earth, it contains a larger population of stars than other nearby bright open clusters holding around 1,000 stars. Under dark skies, the Beehive Cluster looks like a small nebulous object to the naked eye, and has been known since ancient times.

Did butterflies invent the solar panel? A few springs ago, I saw this marble butterfly (Euchloe sp.) land on the desert floor, then tilt its wings at an angle exactly perpendicular to the sun - like a motorized solar array - to efficiently warm up on a chilly morning (Mojave Desert, California). 🐙🌿

How Much Does Our Language Shape Our Thinking? English continues to expand into diverse regions around the world. The question is whether humanity will be homogenized as a result.

An estimated 1.5 billion people—roughly one in every five human beings—speak English, making it the most widely used language in the history of humanity. Some researchers worry about what we’re losing with its expansion.
