Sydney prison to return to government management A 1,500-bed prison in Sydney's north-west, that has been subject to riots, will return to state government management after it was outsourced in 2009.

Governments across Australia and around the world are recognising that outsourcing prison operations to private, for-profit operators has been a harmful and expensive mistake.

It's time Victoria de-privatises its prison system - and gets private subcontractors out of the system too.

This initiative is seeking academics from a range of disciplines who can dedicate at least 12 hours of their time over a period of 12 months towards mentoring and supporting higher education students who have been in contact with the criminal legal system.
