Charles Babbage's Difference Engine as recreated in the 20th Century
Inspired by Smith, Gaspard de Prony, a French engineer, set out to “manufacture my logarithms as one manufactures pins.” Charles Babbage took this as proof that division of labor could apply to “mental operations” too, helping to inspire the Difference Engine designed in the 1820s.
Smith adapted the example of the pin factory from Diderot's Encyclopédie which drew on technical studies of pin making for their article "Épingle" (French for "pin").
Philosophy Bluesky! It's 250 years today since the publication of (An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of) The Wealth of Nations. There's so much more in it than it is usually assumed.

Me alegro que no clamases “Falacia: ¡Falsa Dicotomía!”. Gascón 2021 es muy interesante. La cosa es , descartando los usos más “falaciosos”del concepto, dadas las múltiples dimensiones en las que puede juzgarse la utilidad o no del concepto ¿cuáles deberían prevalecer?
