Thank you, Rob! π
Thank you, Marina π I am so thankful to live near my brother and SIL and their lovely garden
An weathered animal vertebrae, likely from a deer, rests atop a lichen covered rock against a background of a grassy slope in the Columbia Gorge near Catherine Creek.
A weathered skull of a deer, probably a buck, and likely a Columbia Black-tailed deer, sits on a lichen covered branch of an oak tree along the Memaloose Hills Trail near Mosier, Oregon.
The Deerly departed
Bones (likely) of Columbia Black-tailed deer, seen while hiking among the oak forests of the Columbia Gorge. In the wild, average lifespan is said to be around six years. Predators such as cougars, black bear, or coyotes; or harsh winters can cause their death.

Thanks Rob π
Thank you kindly! ππ
Thank you, Margot! The youngsters at the refuge often seem less wary, finding themselves right next to the road.
Beautiful shot of one of my favorite spring flowers π
Bright yellow Oregon grape blossoms radiate out from a central vertical green stem. Each individual blossom has 6 petals and a round center.

A close-up portrait of a juvenile Red-tailed Hawk, taken at Ridgefield NWR earlier this week. There is beautiful feather definition, and his yellow cere, downturned beak and eyes seem to show a concerned expression.
Iβve been worried about you and thought I should check inβ¦

Flickers have the most elegant black dots and dashes among their brown feathers. They also have a gray throat and red cheek patches if theyβre male and a chevron of black feathers on their breast. Those in our area have red shafts on the underside of their wing feathers, hence the name.

A pair of bald eagles frequently perch in the branches of a particular tree at Ridgefield NWR. Today they were calling out and mating at the top of the tree. π«£ Though I did not get a photograph of them in action.
