Anyway, happy World Book Day! If you had gone back in time and told Young Bugge that she would be a published author one day she probably would have recoiled in horror ("OTHER PEOPLE are reading my stuff?!!?") but anyway, today is a good day to horrify her in some psychotemporal way

A brief overview of the hit songs of the 1980s will reveal exactly how thoroughly Armageddon was in the zeitgeist.

The cover for Uncanny Magazine Issue 69, "Kuolonuni"Β by Broci: A femme-looking figure with blue-green wavy hair and red eyes stands with one hand atop the other, open palmed up, a blue-pedaled flower with yellow stamens floats above centered to their chest. On their head is a pale blue snake with red eyes curled like a circlet. Their sleeves are pink, and their shoulders have wavy, yellow feathers or hair attached to a yellow and pink high collar. Behind them, green lily pads crowd each other out in a black background. The whole image has a hand-drawn look, with the colors textured like watercolors on paper. In white text is the "Uncanny" banner, "March/April 2026," Issue Sixty-Nine," and the artist, writer, essayist, poets, and Uncanny staff credits.
Who needs a dose of joy? Uncanny Magazine Issue 69 Part 1 is LIVE ON YOU INTERNET! buff.ly/VcNzPe8

Somehow I just knew that this would be happening.
"Military leaders pushing 'Armageddon views' on troops as Iran war begins: complaint"

They've monetized and incentivized committing crimes against humanity.
It's a scandal on par with Pete Rose betting on baseball, if Pete Rose were undersecretary of defense, and baseball was murdering civilians with bombs.
I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves. Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone. That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins. If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after. Sahar Delijani, Iranian author
I am pro Iranian people. I stand with them against their own governmentβs repression AND against the imperial violence in the form of bombs dropped from the sky from Israel & the US who have already killed hundreds.
I support neither imperialism or dictatorship.
Sahar Delijani said it best:
Co-signed by this anthropologist (who grew up in a different colonial regime). Lives should not be treated as toys or chess pieces to move in an effort to consolidate power and wealth under the guise of βfreedom.β Mere weeks ago the same powers were fine with slaughter of thousands seeking democracy
"We invoke international law and the 'rules based international order' when adversaries engage in unlawful actions, but abandon those same rules entirely when itβs the Americans doing the bombing."
#Opinion from former foreign minister Lloyd Axworthy
Veneration of the military is a cultic practice used to insulate the state from the banal reality that the primary purpose of the army is murdering brown people and smashing leftist political movements.

I'm going to do a close read of a specific article here, because I think it's a really good example of this problem.
It's an early article, published in the Hollywood Reporter on Dec 22nd.

A mom seeking refuge from the Ukraine or Sudan war takes her child to the emergency ward and Poilievre wants to make sure her child is turned away.

@emmettmacfarlane.com: Albert Premier Danielle Smithβs vision is one that would create a nightmarish, dystopian underclass. It is a cruel, inherently racist agenda, straight from the far-right populist playbook we have seen play out in the United States. It is anti-Canadian. #abpoli
βSchools are an ideal breeding ground for #measlesβ on CBC Radio 7pm news.
Of course they wouldnβt have to be if
1. We cleaned the air in schools
2. Sick people wore masks and stayed away
3. Most importantly, kids were vaccinated before coming to school.
FFS. This is NOT hard.
I'm not really qualified to comment on any aspect of skating other than the vibes, but I really liked Gutmann's program. Women's skate often feels constrained by needing to make the skater look "pretty." This one went "what if I was a fucking shark?"
THAT'S RIGHT
