You hear a song a thousand times and then something suddenly emerges for you: somehow I'd never heard the mellotron in "Taste the Pain" before, in the first verse, in that little break before the "headlights" lyric. It must be the source of all the other strings in the song too.
Ahh, there it is. Nice to see Gary Allen. Without him , none of this happens!

I jinxed it!
Happy World Book Day! Thought I’d share some of my Beatle Bookshelves to celebrate!
Never seen these before, from the same shoot with Anthony and Ione as the er, much more memorable photo that appears in Scar Tissue.

I've seen some bad fakes in my time - this is up there.
Mati Klarwein’s fabulous LP cover art for Miles Davis’ 1970 masterwork “Bitches Brew”.
Happy 93rd Birthday to the mighty Yoko Ono.
‘I could have been squashed by that incredible amount of hatred. But then I found a way of transforming it into love.’
Was this remix done on the sly during a Chili Peppers recording session? All signs point to yes...
Rick Rubin and Dave Navarro being involved in a 1994 recording together made me think there might have been a Chili Peppers connection; it was around the time of One Hot Minute's recording, right?
Well, the remix was engineered by David Sardy & David Schiffman. Guess who engineered One Hot Minute?
It's quite a different sounding version of the song and features Dave Navarro on guitar. Trent Reznor has always said he adores this version of the song and even played this version live a number of times (including the tour NIN is currently on).
Something I've been thinking about for a while but finally took the time to delve into it.
Rick Rubin remixed a Nine Inch Nails song in 1994, "Piggy," which was released on various promo singles and eventually the deluxe edition of The Downward Spiral.

A holy grail John Coltrane item is being released for Record Store Day this April, a full 60 years after its release. Hopefully we don't have to wait 60 years for some RHCP holy grails to finally see the light of day....

Fairly large update to the Track Variants guide just uploaded.
If you've never given this behemoth a perusal, now's the perfect time.

This is the one yep.
Exciting! Hopefully there’s some footage or photos in there we haven’t seen before. And I pray they get some crucial details right…
Say what you will about Tony K's singing, but tone deaf he ain't, and Michael Beinhorn should really know the difference.
At least the accompanying press tour will be (hopefully) enlightening.
Pre-orders available, including pretty reasonably priced signed stuff!

HONORA by Flea coming 27 March.
Another collab with Thom Yorke, and my (distant) cousin Nick Cave on the Witchita Lineman cover!
Pretty quiet year for the band. Just one show and nothing really of note archive-wise. Hopefully 2026 is a bit more exciting! At least two solo albums for sure, and maybe word of a new album by the end of the year? We shall see….
