The fact that children in 2025 are suffering from diseases that should have been consigned to history is not just a public health failure. It is a moral failure.

Thanks for flagging this! Hawaii's outbreaks show up behind the legend currently (see May 2025). I may move the legend in a future update so they're not obscured.
On a personal note: It's disheartening that this project was needed, but I hope it'll be a helpful resource in these troubling times. It's been in development for some time, and we're glad to finally have it out in the world.
Measles is back. U.S. cases hit a 33-year high this year, and Canada could lose its elimination status.
With vaccination waning and data gaps growing, @thinkglobalhealth.org built a new tracker to follow outbreaks worldwide + data from @promedmail.org.

Thank you for the kind words, @angierasmussen.bsky.social! We're excited to have this resource up and running. We're launching with these nine for now, but may consider adding others down the line!
Also lots of credit to data editor @akrugman.bsky.social for putting together such an easy to use tracker. If you're taking requests, I vote adding rubella.
I'd love to say lots of nice things about this invaluable preventable disease tracker from @monscience.bsky.social and team at Think Global Health. It's an incredible resource.
But I can't get over my anger & sadness that this resource is even needed.

Think Global Health offers three charts to recount what has unfolded since the October 7 attack and to take stock of the immense health needs in Gaza.
I had the privilege of reporting on the health and humanitarian crisis unfolding in the DRC for @thinkglobalhealth.org amid the abrupt U.S. retreat from the global stage.
Thanks to @amymaxmen.bsky.social for connecting me with some of the incredible voices featured in this piece.
In the name of axing an incredibly small investment (parts of which go to Americans to produce the aid given), the US throws away a massive amount of soft power as well as vital assistance that would make the world safer for all (including Americans)
A must-read piece about the neglected crisis unfolding in Congo, and why the timing of US abandonment may haunt us in the future.

Rwanda-backed rebels take over cities in Congo & the US pulls aid. Mass rape, mass death & hunger.

Rubio terminated 5800 USAID contracts β more than 90% of its foreign aid programs β in defiance of the courts.
Hereβs a list of just some of the lifesaving awards that were terminated. Nearly all were Congressionally mandated. Theyβve saved millions of lives. π§΅
The yawning gap in global aid funding left by the United States has led to speculation over whether it could be filled by other nations or private funders.
@akrugman.bsky.social tracks how Trumpβs executive orders are jeopardizing global health programs.
U.S. egg prices have reached a 45-year high.
Virologists and an economist explain how a new version of H5N1 bird flu drove the trendβand why the prices for some egg brands are rising faster than others.
@monscience.bsky.social reports: www.thinkglobalhealth.org/article/us-e...
A data visualization graph titled "H5N1 Bird Flu Detections in U.S. Poultry Surge in Fall and Winter." The graph shows bird flu detections from August to March across three flu seasons: 2022-23 (yellow), 2023-24 (blue), and 2024-25 (red). The 2024-25 season shows a sharp increase, peaking in January 2025 at over 20 million detections, three times higher than the previous year. A note on the graph highlights that 41.4 million domesticated birds were culled due to H5N1 in December 2024 and January 2025. Data source: CDC via USDA APHIS, chart by CFR/Nsikan Akpan and Allison Krugman, published by Think Global Health.
I spoke with poultry veterinarians about how the new version of H5N1, called D1.1, drove the trend.
In Dec. and Jan., poultry producers culled 41M chickens because of the outbreakβthree times more than the same period last year.

BREAKING NEWS: Research and basic information on subjects ranging from tuberculosis surveillance to adolescent health disappeared from federal health agency websites.
It's been a chaotic day on the health & data front.
Today's "purge" scrubbed critical info on HIV, environmental health, contraception + much more. Concerned for what 4 years of data gaps may bring.

According to Dr. Walter Orenstein, the antivaccine mindset threatens decades of progress toward eradicating polio.
Without continued vaccination, paralysis could resurge anywhereβnot just in the two countries where polio remains endemic.
