In my area, gold finches are especially, and visibly, good at this.

And in Filipino dialects, doubling a word modifies to similarity, so scudscud would mean, “scud like.”

EUGÈNE GODECHARLE // 'Quartetto II in F Major: I. Allegro non troppo' by Société Lunaire YouTube video by Outhere Music

Your earworm of the day is this sprightly quartet from Eugène Godecharle (1742-1798) of Brussels.

Music teacher at Church of St. Géry, guest musician to the court chapel from 1770, but not accepted as 1st violinist until 1794 🤷🏻‍♀️.

The cover of the novel 'Starkinder'. The sky is yellow and there is a silhouette of a great tree in the lee of a hill rising on either side. The ground is pink and the figure of a young girl stands silhoutted before the tree. It is a hand drawing in black biro.

I've entered my YA novel, Starkinder, into the Libraro Prize 2026. It's fun for everyone and follows the story of a young girl battling her way across different planets to reclaim her throne. If you can spare a like I'd be most grateful 🙏. #writingcommunity #writesky

⭐ Customer Review Highlight

Reviewer: DamirRating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars
Title: Early Vonnegut Meets Robin Cook
Date: February 14, 2026Format: Kindle Edition

📘 Review Summary

A young man, dying in a rehabilitation facility, discovers he can slip free of his failing body and inhabit others—patients, staff, even a dog. His strange gift exposes a covert medical conspiracy researching “transferable souls,” and he must escape before he’s permanently trapped. When he encounters a young girl with the same ability, the stakes rise: together they must outwit predatory doctors and wrestle with the ethics of body‑hopping.

W. Town Andrews delivers speculative fiction that’s both original and emotionally resonant. The premise could have turned gimmicky, but the sharp, self‑aware first‑person voice grounds the surreal elements with humor, melancholy, and philosophical bite. The facility setting creates a natural pressure cooker for the story’s high‑concept tension, and the conspiracy thread adds momentum.

The reviewer notes a few pacing dips in the middle and some secondary characters blending together, but praises the ending’s controlled chaos—Elvis fans, a dog named Soames, and all. The final verdict: a novel that reads like early Vonnegut filtered through a medical thriller, strange and moving in equal measure.

Reviewer’s Closing Thought

“Deeply strange, surprisingly moving, occasionally messy, but never boring.”

Agree, except maybe when he was "dwarvened" in Snow White and the Huntsman, and even then his face certainly acted up to the usual excellent standard. Not a dud by any means.

Mockup poster for QUEEN OF THE SKY, w/Florence Pugh dreamcasted as Lilya Litvyak

Offered for consideration for #TheGreyList:

QUEEN OF THE SKY

When Nazis invade, young Ukrainian flier Lilya Litvyak battles not only the Luftwaffe but also the sexism and bureaucracy of the Soviet system to become history's highest scoring female ace. Then is forgotten. Until now.

Of course Ian McShane has been great at comedy too. Look at him; he’s Mr. Bean—only scarier.
