Trump Keeps Gambling With the Economy β€” And Getting Away With It President Donald Trump has taken one risk after another that could have destabilized the American economy. Iran is the latest crisis to test U.S. economic resilience.

I think we are finally seeing the limits of this gambling as described in this @vtg2.bsky.social piece from earlier. www.politico.com/news/magazin...

Today's jobs report was much weaker than expected. Payroll jobs fell 92k in Feb, and revisions to Dec data show a loss of 17k jobs. Average job growth over the last 3 months now under 6k.

Household survey population controls indicate a significant drop in the labor force.

Calling states "red" and "blue" based on presidential results not only ignores the partisanship of other statewide votes but also ignores how lousy those descriptors are at the presidential level.

Democrat’s plan would eliminate federal income taxes for half of U.S. workers Sen. Chris Van Hollen’s tax relief plan could benefit tens of millions of middle-class workers, with a focus on those making at or below a living wage.

The latest Democratic affordability proposal–this one from Senator Van Hollen– was previewed in the Washington Post by @jeffstein.bsky.social this morning. While we don’t have all the details, it seems like a case of good intentions but some problematic results www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

The Tinder-ization of the job market Why nobody's getting hired in a "good" economy

I have a new piece in The Argument.

We haven't (yet?) seen AI affect the labor market by increasing number of people who are unemployed - but there's reason to believe it's contributing to a stagnant labor market by making firms less willing to hire.

What to know about the new changes to SNAP benefits NPR's A Martinez speaks with Ty Jones Cox of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities about new work requirements for recipients of SNAP benefits, also known as food stamps.

CBPP's @tyjonescox.bsky.social on NPR's Morning Edition explains how new #SNAP work requirements are a major hit to working families and their kids.

"This requirement doesn't increase employment or earnings. It just cuts people off."

What to know about Trump retirement accounts The basic idea is to enroll lower income Americans without 401(k)s into similar kinds of plans.

I love that the one Trump policy from #SOTU that people don't hate is actually a Biden policy.

States Should Support an Energy System That Is Affordable, Safe, and Reliable for All There are a range of steps states can take to meet our growing energy needs in a way that works for consumers and helps facilitate the continued transition to clean energy.

The causes of high energy costs are increased construction costs (exacerbated by tariffs), natural gas use and exports, and increased demand, not Democratic policies #CBPPSOTU www.cbpp.org/research/cli...

trump blasts democrats for voting against his "big beautiful bill" which kicked 10 million people of their health insurance, took food away from literal children, and supercharged ice and cbp - all while giving enormous tax cuts to the rich.

below is a graph showing winners/losers from the bill.
