The fact that the PWHL is holding off on saying where Vancouver and Seattle are slotted in the entry draft means they knew that there was a good chance they'd end up with All-Star teams from this expansion process. Basically get to pick any player they want after a 2 year wait to see who excels.

It took them literally 2 years to move Zaitsev's cap hit and only when there was just a year left on the deal and they attached a 2nd. They should know better. Granted Joseph is a better player but he's not "we NEED this guy at $3M for the next 3 years" better. They need a favour and that costs.
The Tarasenko thing was clearly not planned, the Sens pushed for him initially, he was not interested at all and then came back weeks later and said "that $5M offer looks good to me now" and they jumped at it without having a plan to fit him in.
I think you can rightfully argue about whether there is better value to be had on-ice with players who make the same amount but their signings don't impact your actual cap position. In all honesty, taking back Kubalik in the DeBrincat trade and then signing Tarasenko is why we're in this position.
Yeah, I think the problem with these assertions is that both Hamonic and McEwen (the other guys fans point), don't impact your cap. They take a roster spot and if they weren't here, someone else would be in that spot making that cap hit so that decision isn't impacting the Pinto issue.
There are a number of questions to be answered in camp and I'm not sure why the one regarding who's going to play the right side between these two is the most intriguing to me personally.
There's not a whole lot of downside on the deal if you consider him baseline an everyday T4 D for his career and I'm pretty sure even the most skeptical person is in agreement on this. But if he's a 1 or 2, then yeah this deal starts looking great within a couple years easy.
You traded for a player who did not want to be traded, who had spent his entire career with one team, you put him on the second line and gave him a 3rd line C to play with instead of Patrick Kane, his numbers suffered, you didn't make the playoffs and you wonder why he didn't gleefully re-sign.
