Last project of my senior thesis at the University of Florida, and off to work with @afeinstein20.bsky.social on baby stars!!

A Hertzsprung-Russell diagram of stars that our network inferred a period for. These stars cover nearly the entire parameter space of stellar evolutionary pathways.

This figure shows a subset of star brightnesses over time (light curves), demonstrating that our neural network can accurately recover variability periods in 4 types of stars: Cepheid pulsators, spotted rotational variables, young stellar objects, and eclipsing binaries (of the Algol subtype).

We find periods in stars across the HR diagram using a convolutional neural network previously vetted on TESS and Kepler Bonus light curves.

This includes ~100 periods from bright giants that we believe are oscillation periods!
