Overheard from a couple of concept artists: “Well, obviously AI-generated art is no good but AI-generated software is pretty useful.”

Funny how everyone recognizes GenAI‘s flaws when it’s applied to their own area of expertise. 🤔🤔🤔

Claude “democratized” code in the same way that Midjourney “democratized” art, which is to say it didn’t.

Over the past year, every single time one of the apps or services I use suddenly became less reliable and more buggy, I never have to look far for the "Claude is amazing and now writes most of my code" post for the devs involved.

As someone who works in software, I feel the encroachment of LLM-type tools in the workplace and it’s decidedly bad. Short-term: managers have become more confidently incorrect. Long-term: junior coders are getting less hands-on experience, and will mature into less skilled senior engineers.

Europe and the EU are not superpowers, we're middle powers, and in that regard we have way more in common with Iran than we have with the US, and this continuous bootlicking of the United States is going to unravel the EU before we know it - we are on a path of no return, and the no return is now.

I know why, but it’s still mad how a NATO member like Spain can refuse US military aircraft like this while neutral Ireland always allows it, spanning everything from the Iraq War to present.

Q. In the top of our story, we talk about the rally you attended in Managua and a wire report at the time said that there were anti-American chants from the crowd.
The United States at that time - I don't know how much you know about this — was actively supporting the Contras to overthrow the government. So that there's anti-American sentiment? I remember that, I remember that event very clearly.
You do recall hearing those chants? I think the wire report has them saying, "Here, there, everywhere, the Yankee will die." hey were fighting against American -- Huh huh--yes, what is your point?
I wanted to ——
Are you shocked to learn that there was anti-American sentiment?
My point was I wanted to know if you had heard that.
I don't remember, no. Of course there was anti-American sentiment there. This was a war being funded by the United States against the people of Nicaragua. People were being killed in that war.
Do you think if you had heard that directly, you would have stayed at the rally?
I think Sydney, with all due respect, you don't understand a word that I'm saying.

a thing historians will marvel about when they study this era is the extent to which the "war is a thing that happens to poorer, browner people" class went about systematically dismantling every aspect of the global political order that confined the costs of war to poorer and browner people

Statement by the High Representative on behalf of the European Union on developments in the Middle East The EU issued a statement on developments in Iran and the Middle East.

I hope you all stop bragging about the EU’s “commitment to international law", is "support for multilateralism", its "normative power", and the like. This is getting grotesque. I’m not thinking only of EU scholars, but them too. www.consilium.europa.eu/en/press/pre...

Israeli strikes hit hospital in Tehran, witnesses tell Reuters Israeli strikes hit a hospital in Tehran’s Gandhi Street area, two witnesses told Reuters on Sunday, saying the hospital was badly damaged and patients were being taken out.

Israel's most moral army in the world just can't stop bombing hospitals, and they're out of hospitals in Gaza because of their continued genocide.

There’s something morally grotesque about reporting the words of a genocidal war criminal as if they were uttered from a genuine place of authority rather than from atop a pile of Ukrainian corpses.

Just a few weeks ago, all these European powers spoke of the threat that the US now presents to Europe. They talked about the possibility of Trump attacking Greenland, like it was an imminent and existential danger. Now Trump unilaterally bombs Iran and they all fall in lockstep

it's also so insulting to working class people to assume that they're not just bigots, but utterly unpersuadable, and can only be politically appealed to on that basis

(you'll notice this 'listening to the voice of the forgotten man' shtick is dropped the minute we ask for redistribution)

A lot of Georgians in particular I follow are basically cheering the events on, and I find myself in the odd position of knowing exactly why they feel that way and also, at the same time, disagreeing so vehemently that it actually morally horrifies me.
