Berkay Ozcan: β€œImmigration is not a silver bullet for falling birth rates” Berkay Ozcan discusses falling birth rates, whether immigration might provide the answer and what a smaller global population would mean for the environment.

Why are people across the world having fewer children, and can immigration solve the workforce problem this creates?

I love me some Bluesky, but I can't help feeling this place has largely died as a forum for economists. Meanwhile it seems like econ discussion on the other site has made a comeback. How are others feeling about this?

The mall package: using LLMs with data frames in R & Python | Edgar Ruiz | Data Science Lab YouTube video by Posit PBC

We had a #DSLab walking through using the {mall} pkg + {ellmer} in #rstats (& chatlas in #python) to process text columns in a dataframe with LLMs. This is something I find super helpful, esp when the task is tedious, big, & only needs to be done once, then reviewed.

Code quality, in particular readability, and the management of complexity is *much* more important in data analysis than software engineering in general. Why?
