Hereditary peers to lose their seats in the House of Lords Upper chamber accepts final draft of bill, which offers life peerages to some of those who would otherwise be removed

What this doesn't note is that "the underlying principle ... that no one should sit in our parliament by way of an inherited title" is now replaced with the principle that they should sit there by virtue of appointment rather than democratic election.

My employer asks me to complete a survey on AI usage for which this is the first question (required):

It costs nothing to say "Yaaaaaas, sovereign" or "That's some monarch shit" to your non-binary friends, but it pays dividends nonetheless

I thought that if you hurt somebody, especially if you kill their family, they just roll over and do whatever you want? Weird. Anyway, time to watch my favourite films: John Wick, Taken, Nobody, Kill Bill, Blue Ruin, Oldboy, The Equalizer, History of Violence, Mandy, I Saw the Devil (Thread 1/58)

I'm told some Labour MPs are unhappy with this latest act of hostility towards trans people being blamed on Streeting. That feels silly or naïve. It's happening because Wesley kept in place in the NHS, indeed encouraged, the ideologues that Kemi Badenoch *told us* she introduced to key positions.

Toward the end of his two-volume Treatise on the Venom of the Viper, published in 1781, the Tuscan naturalist Deluxe Fontana declared: "I have made more than 6000 experiments; I have had more than 4000 animals bit; I have employed upwards of 3000 vipers and may have been deceived; some essential circumstance may have escaped me: I may have neglected some other, not thinking it necessary; my consequences may have been too general, my experiments too few in number. In a word, I may very easily have been mistaken, and it would be almost impossible that I should never have been so in a matter so difficult, so obscure, and likewise so new."

Fontana thinking his 6000+ experiments may not have been enough to feel confident in his conclusions in the 18th century while we expect our singular experiments and their standalone replications to do wonders some 250 years later... (excerpt from the intro of Jutta Schickore's About Experiment)

love how we killed the old, frail anti-nuke ayatollah just to have him replaced with his young, healthy son who wants nukes and who just had his father, mother, wife, and child murdered on the same day by his mortal enemy. surely this will bring peace to the region

this has been the modus operandi of far right activists when trans people gather in public for a while now. harass, insult, even physically assault us and our supporters. then post the reactions without context, dox us and contact our employers and families. pathetic and cowardly shit.

I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.

A traditional illustration of an anthropomorphic dinosaur playing basket-ball. He looks at the viewer while playing.

The result of an illustration I did for a kid while explaining why this is better than the AI art they tried to do on their tablet.

I been invited to a friend's place and one kid was doing AI on their tablet. Told them that it's bad and the father asked me why. Explained and also said real art have more soul.

He wanted to make a dinosaur playing basket-ball, I drew this for him. They loved it so much, the dad paid me in the end

Only this morning I came across a Reddit post in which a bank employee complained that they were being disciplined for not using AI to write a short memo to their manager.

That the actual memo was well written and made sense did not matter. They were *obliged* to use AI.

Corporate Media Buries Story of US and Israel Killing 168 in Girls School Attack No front-page stories in NYT, WSJ, WaPo. No mention on NBC and CBS Sunday Shows. No stand alone segments on Evening News shows. A death count on par with the OKC bombing is relegated to the back page.

I wrote about how the US and Israel carried out an attack on an Iranian girls school on par with the OKC bombing and US media relegated it to a back page story. No stand alone evening news segments, no front page stories, it made A11 in the NYT then everyone moved on.
