Animators (especially 2D) are woefully underpaid and treated like garbage. They get called in to do pencil-tests full of expression and emotion only to have the work paved over with billion dollar CGI rendering farms. OR they're replaced by AI dogshit.

And then of course there's Nintendo. One of the reasons Nintendo has survived this death of corporate toys is that they actually treat their past with almost holy reverence. Sonic does this as well, to a lesser extent.

But specifically for cartoon SHOWS, the pickings are slim.

Of course there are still outliers. He-Man is doing its thing with the new movie. My Little Pony as a brand identity is still iconic. But in the case of MLP its only because Lauren Faust attempted something new instead of regurgitating the past that it was successful. A lesson nobody wants to learn.

As a whole I think we've begin to move past the endless reboots of 80s franchises and have SLOWLY moved into pastiches of those franchises now being culturally dominant. Chuck E. Cheese is dead, now Five Nights at Freddys is moving towards making its own restaurants. Furbys are now Tattletail, etc..

Mascot Horror and other permutations of toon nostalgia interest me primarily as a study on the way younger generations engage with the death of corporate, toy-based cartoons. Its clear there's still a strong desire for such media, despite its hey-day being long gone.

Also I like toon feet.

I would also add She-Ra and The Princesses of Power onto this. It caught a lot of shit back in the day for being a "woke reboot" or whatever but good god at least it tried to do something different. Look at where we are NOW. Its bleak.
