Rabbi: tell me about how you met
Fiancé: on our first date I asked her if she was a libertarian and if she supported rent control
Rabbi: well? What was her answer?
Fiancée: no and yes
Rabbi: well, then I think I can officiate this wedding

Yeah set a high tax rate, and give parents $800/week per kid for the first three kids
Just going to put out there that imo taxes should take at least 10% more of my income (so +10% across the board to all tax brackets)
But also when we talk federal income tax, there’s also fica - no federal income tax is still a 10% (ish) fica tax on income by the feds
I’m a tax and spend liberal
The US is more racially integrated than I had realized!!
Something I love about SFA is that the adults get the B plots 😭😭
Oil is the most precious commodity in the world. The pain will be severe. The people who will suffer most will be the poorest humans none of whom had anything to di with this. .
I reread this every quarter or so and it's already in the draft of a maybe book. That's how much this preface means to me.
When I wrote “How to share power” the thing that just rung in my head over and over was that we were using the same structures segregated institutions use to manage power, conflict, social, and economic contracts. It does not work using that architecture. We need to build something new.
I misread it as saying it would make you gain weight to become a daddy or that daddy’s over a certain weight were on offer 😭
Advise requested (always dangerous on the Internet)
I am looking to purchase fancy shoes for my wedding and I wear a size 12-13 in US sizes, probably 43 euro sizing, do you have a favorite place find larger fancy women's shoes?
what is your dream shoe?
I used to hate International Women's Day until I spent the day in Tijuana where it was a riot against the patriarchy. Where race and imperialism was at its core.
Happy International Women's Day to the women who fight.
My partner thinks all of the trans Alice’s are named after the main character of resident evil and that’s why there’s so many trans millenial Alices

Thanks to the interaction of racism/colorism and gender, I have seen obviously brilliant Black women treated as if they are ignorant right before my eyes in the same room where the most mediocre white men were taken seriously.
If a white man wrongs a Black woman, in most cases she will be blamed.
It's absolutely soul-crushing when you see right before your eyes that white men are considered to be competent and succeeding unless (and sometimes even when) they fail spectacularly, a largesse which is not granted to the rest of us.

The South ending Reconstruction and plunging their populations into a backward looking culture and economy until it was forced to modernize by the Civil Rights movement is imo a very clean parallel.

My stance on this, for some time, is that not being comfortable doing "ethnic" outreach among senior campaign staff is disqualifying and segregationist, because POC organizers, of course know how to organize white people, why is the opposite not also an expectation?
Those Dems you hate who sat their for hours have decades of history within those spaces.
I don't love their policies and I tend to vote progressive in primaries before falling in line for general elections.
But that comfort in 90+% Black spaces? That's not nothing. It is something. Pay attention.
Progressives may not like to play identity politics, but many...are not very comfortable within majority Black American spaces and it shows. My God, it shows.
Even if progressive candidates don't "pander" by "showing up and swaying at a Black church," they need to at least fake it til they make it.
He's lost my primary vote as well, but I'm Very Online, have a graduate degree, and am pretty politically engaged.
My elders are high propensity voters. They were shaped by Jim Crow and the CRM. Candidates who aren't Black & show up with comfort at Black events and Black churches are HUGE for them.
Crosstabs have a pretty big age gap
33% of Gen Z supports vs 47% Gen X and older
They’re literally harassing an experienced public health public comms professional for not using strategies that we’ve found, over & over again, *do not work*. The temptation to individualize & punish systemic issues, like falling prey to an exploitative “wellness” snake oil industry, isn’t useful…
Kind of love that Tolkien gives us two different tragic figures who ruined their lives with too much doomscrolling (Saruman and Denethor)

this is exactly right
the majority of the working class in the US is female
a disproportionate percentage of the working class in the US are people of color and/or immigrants to the US
these pundits and consultants just want a Tough White Daddy
I served, you're absolutely full of shit. The poster or book with forbidden tattoos is older than either of us. And I was a combat medic, saw plenty of infantry with ink and none of it racist symbols. Because they wanted to stay in the military.
It’s the failed reconstruction. Social justice is the fix .
Not as generic “quota system” but the self awareness of the body politic that everyone had value and history and interiority.
And the very BASIS of this country was the denial of that and it needed healing,
It’s why they fought it
