Dogs’ behaviour is more similar to that of children than to that of cats in a prosocial problem situation Investigating prosociality within a comparative framework is crucial for understanding the evolutionary origin and emergence of prosocial behaviours, …

Dogs and toddlers try to help adults. Cats only help if it is in their own best interests.

We also cover the increasingly promising attempts to exploit the properties of #tissueTregs in the clinic, and outline the key open questions for the field. We are really privileged to be tackling some of these questions in the lab right now, thanks to @erc.europa.eu and @wellcometrust.bsky.social.

If the authors are known to cut corners and fake data, I find that to be a relevant prism to view the paper through.

Likewise, if the authors are known to be experts in a method and publish work that is validated by others, I also find that relevant knowledge.

The molecular cues that induce the #tissueTreg phenotype are only partially understood, but key external signals from the tissue environment seem to be important in upregulating a core transcription factor set, which remodels the epigenetic and transcriptional landscape.

#TissueTregs have now been found in essentially all tissues, and have broadly conserved properties of enhancing repair and rejuvenation as well as controlling local inflammation. While the impact on tissues differ, molecular mediators are largely shared across tissues.

It was a fascinating topic to write about, especially working with my knowledgeable coauthors Markus Feuerer, Daniel Gray, Lucille Rankin and Lisa Schmidleithner, based at @wehi-research.bsky.social / @unimelb.edu.au / University of Regensburg

The cellular kinetics are not fully understood, however the majority of evidence using parabiosis, TCR retrogenics, cell transfers and fate-mappers suggest that the majority of #tissueTregs are pan-tissue, multi-tissue or tissue-cycling in their behaviour during homeostasis.

Eventually they rebranded as the "Royal Humane Society", and switched to mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

I'm not sure why the @royalhumanesociety.bsky.social history page glosses over this, I'd be leaning in to that backstory.

William Hawes and Thomas Cogan were so taken with the idea that in 1774, they formed "The Institution for Affording Immediate Relief to Persons Apparently Dead From Drowning", and set up bellows and enema pipes along the River Thames to rescue drowning victims by blowing smoke.

In 1746, a man revived his drowned wife by sticking his pipe into her rectum and blowing burning tobacco into her anus. As one does.
