You see, it's the foundation for the defence of *democracies*, and the gulf monarchies are not democracies, and hence do not require defence. It's simple!
Sorry Dubowitz, you'll be the queen of the ashes and bones after all
it's fascinating how FDD guys have gotten everything they wanted but it tastes like ash in the mouth
no, this can't be the case, that would imply israel is doing something wrong, a position someone can only conceivably entertain if consumed by ancient hatreds
analysis Mirror, mirror: Demsβ Israel problems look a lot like the GOP on Ukraine In this polarized political landscape, support for Israel and Ukraine are now becoming partisan issues, with GOP elected officials and voters overwhelmingly supportive of Israel, while Democrats are standing by Ukraine
Jewish Insider fails to realize that Republicans oppose Ukraine for bad reasons and Democrats are increasingly opposed to Israel for good reasons
I know, don't worry, I'm just greedily taking the opportunity to say more
I fully understand the realpolitik reason not to go to war with Saudi, and, to be clear, I would object to a war of aggression in that case for prudential and moral reasons. But if that's the yardstick the same reasons clearly apply to Iran as well.
Did you know iranian women *have the vote*? There is no comparison. It's such a waste, because I really think iranian civil society would have collapsed the guardian council system given time, and were close to forcing reform. Instead we get dead schoolgirls and nationalist retrenchment at best.
I can't think of a single way in which SA comes out looking better. They make Iran look like a utopian enclave of civilization and womens' rights by comparison. Yet no one has floated the idea of a decapitation strike against MBS. Curious
It's all great power politics and facile campism as a thin rationalisation of imperialist wars of aggression all the way down. Just opportunistic warmongers living in the moment, not a single principle in sight.
If people who defend a war with Iran to liberate iranian women actually believed this, they would be virulently agitating for regime change wars in Saudi Arabia and the gulf monarchies, which are incomparably worse. I know virtually no one who takes up this position, which I think is instructive.
i can never tell is any of the pictures of this man are altered or not
I believe this one is actually real, though I also refused to believe it at first
I think it makes sense that it looks like thought to us, because it just is an association of signifiers specifically selected because the order is legible to us as constituting meaningful sentences, even if it's used to more subtly order the first-order selection.
I think you're talking about inference, but I feel that just kicks the can down the road. What we care for are the extra-linguistic processes of reflection and conceptual development and implementation. A second, or third order association of signifiers is still basically the same thing.
Jeremy Corbyn β’ @jeremycorbyn β’ 1d $ ... We cannot let Keir Starmer drag this country into another illegal war. That's why I tabled a Bill to require Parliamentary approval for the foreign use of British bases. Today, I urged the Prime Minister to fulfill the promise he made in 2020 and pass this legalisation, now.
They were terrified of this guy because of the social forces he unlocked, quite accidentally. But heβs a letter-writing, petition collecting kind of politician, he thinks heβs there to enable others. A proper populist monster would lay waste to the British political landscape.
Me *smiling really nervously* we have nothing to be afraid. W-we know everything. A-about everyone. Y-y-you think *voice breaks* w-we're in danger? w-we're putting the *voice breaks again* haha, the, uh the other guys in danger
Sephiroth has aura. This is exactly like walter white trying to aurafarm and failing all the time.
Sephirothposting irl
I think constantly screaming that you know everything and you're super powerful and everyone needs to be scared fr fr, is exactly what you do when you're in a really good position and have nothing to fear. It just makes sense to me. The king needs to keep reminding everyone they're the king and such
I'd need to know more about the processes that you believe are doing that work.
As if people want to listen now. Many people still think the surveilance state is sensible safeguarding.
But this gets it backwards, right? The challenge of the strait is not that you canβt get ships through, ships are going through right now. Itβs that you need a ton of ships to go through and pretty much 100% of them need to make it, because no insurer is going to gamble on a billion dollar loss
I'm no IR scholar but I imagine at least one of the 13 other involved parties may have their own ideas
what is the case for thinking that the duration of the conflict will be up to Trump?
Iran is IRL Gondolin with 92.000.000 overwhelmingly hostile citizens and like 2.000.000 reservists. Occupation without conscription is the sort of abjectly delusional fantasy that brings down empires. You don't put 100.000 people into that and expect to see them emerge again.
Incidentally, launching an attack during a negotiation is both arguably war criminal qua perfidy, and also a flagrant violation of the law of treaties, which requires that all negotiations are approached at all times, by all parties, without exception, *bona fides*
At some point I may return to this, and if you're still interested, I will try to follow your substantive argument about next-word-in-a-series prediction qua thought.
To be frank, the first time you get murdered in the middle of negotiations it's on the other guy. The second time it's on you, and this would be the third time, so can you really blame iranians for getting the message? It's not their fault the US is unreliable and mercurial.
