Book Group The last Thursday of every month was Book Group,โจwhen the books would gather together to discuss Brian. โItโs no fun here any more,โ remarked Bleak House, glumly.โจโWhy doesnโt he read us?โ whined the Grapes of Wrath. โIt makes me so angry!โ โจโIโm sure he only bought me so he can show me off to his friends,โโจcomplained Ulysses, in a stream of self-consciousness. โI bet he canโt even remember my name, The Idiot,โโจmuttered a voice from the Russian literature section.โจโThatโs because he avoids you like The Plague,โ said another.โจโCโest vrai!โ came a cry. โIt is like I do not exist.โ โLetโs not give up on him yet.โ It was Brave New World.โจAfter some Persuasion, they agreed to give him one last chance.โจโBe quiet!โ cried Waiting for Godot with Great Expectations.โจโHere he comes now!โ Brian entered the room, with his phone.โจHe sat down and watched some videos of baby pandas falling over.โจAfter an hour or so, he started googling cats dressed as celebrities. On the shelf, the books waited with uncracked spines,โจtheir silence speaking volumes. Brian Bilston
In celebration of World Book Day, hereโs a poem called โBook Groupโ.
Donโt forget to move all your books forward one hour for World Book Day!

#OwlishMonday Owl mosaic cleaned up by volunteers at the tragically abandoned Leeds Library which was once a veritable arts & crafts haven of learning & literature. How the council could have let it fall into disrepair is criminal.
Love this Paul McCartney shoot, from 1965 with Jean Shrimpton. Richard Avedon is the photographer. Here's a cool contact sheet from that session.

'Over the land freckled with snow half-thawed
The speculating rooks at their nests cawed
And saw from the elm-tops, delicate as flower of grass
What we below could not see, Winter pass.' (words Edward Thomas/Art Francesco Balsamo)

And when they bombed other peopleโs houses, we protested but not enough, we opposed them but not enough. I was in my bed, around my bed America was falling: invisible house by invisible house by invisible house. I took a chair outside and watched the sun. In the sixth month of a disastrous reign in the house of money in the street of money in the city of money in the country of money, our great country of money, we (forgive us) lived happily during the war.
don't even know anymore how many times I revisit this one from Ilya Kaminsky... #poetry
