Long-distance video of two White-tailed Eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla) in the River Little Brosna Callows SPA last month.

NPWS confirmed that the bird in flight is a female released on the Shannon Estuary in 2022 as part of the reintroduction programme. The other bird's tag was not visible.

Medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) are essential for both human health and ecological balance. They play a crucial role in supporting ecosystems by stabilizing soils, promoting biodiversity and providing essential resources for pollinators, such as bees and hummingbirds.

Butterfly with yellow tinged wings with blank tip and markings on a cream-colored wall.

A Large White butterfly which surprised one of our #TeamScottCawley members in their kitchen. Common in Europe, caterpillars often feed on cabbage and other brassicas, as Latin name Pieris brassicae suggests, often referred to as β€˜cabbage whites’. An early sighting as they usually fly April-October

A ringed plover runs across a sandy beach. The bird's orange beak and legs contrast with the surrounding sand.

Did you know that some bird species, like ringed plovers, tempt underground invertebrates out by imitating the sound of rain with their feet? 🌧

This nifty trick is called β€˜foot-trembling’ and involves the birds tapping their feet on the ground to recreate the sound of rain. πŸ‘£

Large grey gull on a clifftop

First sighting of a winter glaucous gull on the west coast of Ireland by a #TeamScottCawley ecologist.
The Larus hyperboreus or FaoileΓ‘n glas - glaucous is from Latin for grey - the second-largest gull species, breeds in arctic regions. One of only a handful here?
Any more sightings? #GlaucousGull
