A weird mystery where a scientist uses wild pseudoscience, not investigation, to catch a deranged serial killer. Fortunately, the killer is also absurd, so it's consistent. The reporter stuff is dull, but Dr. X's hunt for the killer is engaging. Campy B-Movie fun!

Lugosi and Karloff shine in this pre-code rollercoaster. It's outlandish and melodramatic but absolutely thrilling. Very taboo themes for the 1930s make it feel modern. 90+ years later, the ending is somehow still one of the most disturbing scenes in horror.
The Day of the Triffids (1963)

A weird movie. Most people are suddenly blind, and also there are plant monsters. Feels like two concepts that never really intersect in an interesting way. The triffids still look amazing. The acting is rough and the end is silly. B-movie cheese.
Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare (2025)

Surprisingly good! Less funny than other public domain horror adaptations. Peter is genuinely scary, lots of very tense scenes. The acting was mixed but better than I expected. A solid film even without the Peter Pan IP. Solid gore effects.

A beautiful and subversive vampire film exploring addiction, vulnerability, and gender. The title and the plot flip the idea of predator and prey in a clever way. Great cinematography emphasizes the characters' loneliness in the bleak town.

A disturbing yet beautiful character study. On face value, Robert's actions are just for shock, but the way it explores how his fetishes are intertwined with his trauma is captivating. Transgressive and political, meant to shock but also make you think and feel.

A solid creature feature with some body horror and mad scientist elements. The giant animal effects have aged better than most, with some really clever shots that still hold up. Great pacing. The mutated humans add an interesting mystery to this giant insect flick.
It's really clever! It could have just been a time loop gimick like Happy Death Day [no hate toward that] but it really leaned into its concept. Just smart storytelling.

Unbridled creativity and scathing social commentary butchared by studio edits, fixed with the director's cut. All characters, even background ones, are gorgeous. Teaches us to celebrate our differences. Cronenberg is scary as hell. A Clive Barker masterpiece!

A solid horror film and a unique take on the time-loop genre. Each loop peels back another layer of what's happening until the end when it all fits together. A good example of trusting the audience's intelligence and not over-explaining, great visual storytelling.

The worst kind of horror remake, lazy. Like the children, it's a bland, soulless imitation. If you'd never seen the original, you could watch this and enjoy it, but it doesn't bring much new to the table and can never match what made the original great.

Only for people who loved the first film. It does shed a little light on the origin of the mysterious children, which was interesting but unnecessary. The children are less evil, more of a moral tale. A better Iron Maiden song than a horror sequel 🤘

Everyone in a small town passes out, and when they wake up, all the women are pregnant. 9 months later, they give birth to creepy kids. It's mysterious and unsettling. George Sanders is excellent. The ending is thrilling. Holds up after almost 70 years!
It Came From Outer Space (1953)

The alien is the best part of the film. Where most aliens just look like people in makeup or suits, this film imagines something truly out of this world. The plot is slow and the message is muddled, but if you like scifi B movies, you may like it.
The Blob (1988)

One of the best horror remakes! It modernizes the original for the Reagan era. Great effects make the blob more than just a blob of jello, and there are some gnarly kills. Before Saw, Shawnee Smith was a kick ass final girl. All the characters are well-defined.

Just brilliant! The way it uses a serial killer to satarize capitalism, masculinity, and American culture makes this movie unexpectedly hilarious. So many quoteable lines. Still, there are some creepy scenes. Christian Bale is incredible as Patrick Bateman.

A flawed but fun sequel to a film that didn't need one. The Grabber is back in a creative way. He's scarier in this one. It can feel too much like Nightmare on Elm Street. I wasn't as invested in the plot as I was for the 1st one. Only for fans of the 1st film.

A solid horror film. The concept of speaking to the victims of a serial killer to find a way to escape is unique and executed well. Gave me Stephen King vibes. Mason Thames is a good lead. The Grabber is scary, Hawke is great, though maybe underdeveloped.

A good remake spoiled by a bizarre ending and a dated emphasis on 3D effects. Still, the kills are satisfying and Harry Warden looks great. Captures the setting of a struggling coal town in a modern way. Tom Atkins is always a plus. Happy Valentine's Day!

My favorite of the series! Everything that defines a Friday the 13th film clicks. The characters are relateable, the kills are great. Introduces Tommy Jarvis, my favorite portrayal of him. Jason is grounded but scary. Happy Friday the 13th!

A succubus is loose in NYC and she has her sights set on Joel, an aspiring minister who is beginning to question his faith. A great setup executed well and shot beautifully. James Bond III wrote, directed, and starred in this film. Wish he did more movies.

The sequel shifts perspectives and follows Norman as he takes down a crew of organ trafficking meth cooks, a ridiculous story that feels more like a John Wick Caine spinoff than a sequel. I wish it had followed Rocky from where we left off in the first film.

A reverse home invasion where the homeowner picks off the burglars one by one. Stephen Lang is incredible, giving sympathy to an evil man. Jane Levy is also great, an underrated final girl. That one scene... so twisted, I'll never forget seeing it in theaters.

Like a haunted house, campy and fun. More spooky than scary, but with just enough frights to keep it fresh 60 years later. Vincent Price is delightfully wicked as the host of this outrageous party. A film I find myself coming back to every now and then.

Strong performances, great atmosphere, and rising tension that ultimately builds to... not much. Improves on a second watch, knowing the ending changes your perspective on earlier events. Likeable characters and a fun concept held back by a half-baked plot.

The best thing about this prequel is it's the only film from John Kramer's POV. No big revelations, but Bell is great as always. The victims are terrible. The traps fall into the trope where they suffer but die anyway. A safe entry that plays the hits Saw fans love.

The one that finally let go of John Kramer. After Jigsaw, this could have been the start of a series of copycat Jigsaw Killers like Scream, a direction I would have preferred. The traps go back to basics. The plot worked but the killer was obvious. Under appreciated.
