Many states permit childhood vaccine exceptions for a wide variety of things, including "personal belief."

Just five states have the strictest possible law, allowing exemptions only on a medical basis. Unsurprisingly, these states have some of the highest vaccination rates.

The MMR vaccine is one of the most important. Today 14 states have an MMR vaccination rate for kindergartners of less than 90%. In 2019, just 3 did.
