And, in my humble opinion, this is one thing contributing to the teen reading decline. We made a YA market that chases adult readers/adult money instead of accepting that catering to actual teens probably won't rake in the uber bucks (with the long-term gain of fostering future adult readers)

I'm in the same boat. My best guess for my aversion is that the characters are often put in very specific gender/behavioral boxes that feel restrictive. I've also felt like some plots/worlds I've read were just written to hit specific tropes or dialogue, which really made them feel... inauthentic?

It's just a bit time-consuming! I cut them with a knife, but cutting would be fairly quick with a mandoline. Then I just tossed the slices in the cream mixture, laid them out (the longest part), and put them in the oven. Covered for about 30 minutes, uncovered + topped with cheese for 20
