Despite the claims from the usual austerity-minded commentators that the sky is falling and spending needs to be slashed, B.C. has a revenue problem, not an expense problem, writes @alonghurst.bsky.social. #bcpoli
A snake has its head right in front of a camera. It has a cream and rasberry coloration in large patches that get smaller on the top of the head. The eyes are comically enormous, lime-green colored, and seem to protrude from a tiny snake skull. From the Wikipedia page on Imantodes cenchoa Colubridae: Imantodes cenchoa Yarina Lodge, Ecuadorian Amazon Geoff Gallice from Gainesville, FL, USA
The blunthead tree snake (Imantodes cenchoa) looks like what happens if you squeeze a garter snake too hard.
The eyes make up 27% of the head's area, and a thin ribbon body looks out of proportion.
You'll find them high in the trees of Central & South America.

A relatively small Amanita muscaria grows out of dark brown soil and is surrounded by light green moss on the ground. It stands about three and a half inches tall and is about an inch and a half wide at the thickest part of the cap. The stipe is fibrous and white. The cap, covered in pointy raised soft yellow patches, is reddish-orange that fades to deep red at the top.
Loved this chunky little Amanita muscaria. My favorite part is the webby detail around the patches on the cap

I encountered this Bursaria truncatella after it "inhaled" a Paramecium. I was hoping to see the Paramecium get sealed into a vacuole, but instead it finally managed to escape! My students have nicknamed Bursaria "Micro Roomba." LOL

Smoky jungle frog, Guyana
It's hard to get a sense of scale from this, but the smoky jungle frog is the largest amphibian I've ever seen. We first saw it in Ecuador 20 years ago (my wife still refers to it simply as the "Hypnotoad"), and I had a chance to nab this photo this January in Guyana.
(Guinea pig-sized, I'd say.)

The CDC has just issued a Travel Health Notice specifically related to polio popping up in about 30 countries.
They recommend making sure youβre up to date on your vaccinations, and if you are traveling to one of the countries in red, you should consider a booster.

Fucking asshole. I have less than zero respect for this prick.
Does anyone have any ideas about what someone can do when they find a bunch of fake AI content falsely quoting them on a website? I think all the writers of the blog posts are also fake. The website is Alibaba, I have a feeling all of their help is also AI...

I'm so proud of my kid for recognizing the toxicity and danger of this, and coming to me about it. We've talked about social media and radicalization, about how it almost always starts as jokes so they can say you're overreacting, it's not serious... and then it gets darker.
Talk to your kids.
When someone says βScientists do not want you to knowβ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They canβt shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

Know what water fluoridation is correlated with?
Fewer cavities.
Lower heath costs.
Increased equity as a universal heath benefit.
Likely lower rates of heart disease by reducing rates of Streptococcus mutans in the blood stream.
Which again, lowers heath costs and increases equity.
