A very early start on the North York Moors this weekend with me on site to survey bird life just before sunrise.

Awful news. He was such good company on here and the other place. My condolences to his family and colleagues.
I was very sad to read today of the passing of the brilliant and wonderful James Turner KC.
I was lucky enough to count James amongst my friends.
Iβll never forget the kindness he showed to everyone he met.
My condolences to his family and the members of 1KBW.

An air dry clay miniature sculpture of an Eurasian Woodcock (Scolopax rusticola) hand made by Kerrie Ann Gardner.
Day 11 of #ArtAdventCalendar.
A few years ago, I made some miniature bird sculptures out of clay. Painting this Woodcock was good fun - that cryptic plumage of theirβs is beautiful! I love the warm russet tones.
Lack of bird activity in my garden usually means a cat or some other predator. This morning it was a rather striking male sparrowhawk who had taken this female blackbird on my lawn.
Good morning from a very chilly North Yorkshire!

Itβs an Eurasian Jay.
A Eurasian Jay.
Just opened a Twitter account. I hear itβs going to be pretty big over there.
This autumn and winter, please consider leaving dead plants in your garden rather than 'tidying' them up. Over the colder months they will provide sheltered spots for hibernating ladybirds and lots of other wildlife π

Thank you.
Is this what a jay looks like! In my native Norwegian, theyβre literally called βnut screamersβ π
Having seen my garden in daylight for the first time since last weekend, Iβm delighted to
find that a kestrel has been roosting on a sparrow terrace and leaving pellets on the ground below. I wish I had time to dissect them!
We have had a big movement of jays in the last week. Normally incredibly shy where I am (the North Yorkshire countryside), the limited acorn crop this year means they are dropping into the garden to take seeds and peanuts.

Good morning from Bristol where we are being hosted by the Western Circuit at 3PB for our #BarCouncil meeting. Weβll be sharing live updates here.
Last year, 1436 criminal court hearings were delayed because there was no barrister to represent one side or the other.
Back in 2019, that number was just 71.
For Counsel I ask:
Where have all the criminal barristers gone?
I have a friend who volunteers there!
England's criminal courts are in disarray. If you are victim of a crime now, and the police catch the suspect and the CPS charges them, the trial may not take place until 2027.

Hello old friends, Law Paw is now available on Bluesky!
I suspect Croatia provides a tremendous butterfly display in early summer. There are still good numbers about including this continental form of the Swallowtail feeding moments ago in the Cavtat harbour.
π¨ Closing next Friday 30th August!
Applications for our Remote Casework Volunteering programme starting in October are open.
This is a great opportunity to be exposed to a wide range of areas of law and learn about the needs of litigants in person.
Apply today!

Richard Atkins KC lost his daughter, Lucy, in an horrific road traffic accident. Turning this grief round to be a blessing for others, he's raising money for the Zambesi Sunshine Trust. You can help here www.peoplesfundraising.com/donation/luc...
Interesting and thanks. Iβll look those up when I return in a couple of days.
Yes, little appears to have changed since your visit!
Please please follow Advocate (@weareadvocate.bsky.social).
They reach out a helping hand to people who might not otherwise find assistance: a vital part of our profession.
I'd urge all Barristers to offer at least some of their time to this great cause, especially at the junior end.
