Yeah, I did not store my slides properly at all: they were in slide boxes but they spent time in damp, swampy basements and maybe even a few months in hot attic; I didn't know/care about those things back then. I rarely projected them.

Another thing I learned the hard way about slide film is that it doesn't always last as long as you'd think. I shot Kodachrome 64 and Agfachrome 100 for about 30 years and when I finally got around to scanning my slides (in 2007) most of them were badly faded, even the Kodachrome.

Yes, FlicFilm respools Ektachrome, I think it's the cine version as I've read that it has cinema sprocket holes that may not engage properly with all film cameras (but not a problem for most). Where I live it's less than half the price of the Kodak-branded film.

Three stop push but the R72 filter knocks it down by five or six stops so I was shooting at EI 100 (should have done EI 50). That was enough to get handheld shots at the normal 1/100 shutter speed with the f/8 opening. Next time I'll shoot at EI 50 but that'll require bright conditions.

Thanks! I have two more rolls of this film and will try it again. Pushing this film to 1600 lets you shoot infrared photos with the Holga handheld, no bulb mode, which is nice! The negatives were thin but usable. The only drag was that I had to use a lot of Rodinal (1:25 dilution), 17 minutes.

It's the Ranica Mir 3. I love it; it's extremely simple but well made and I've shot four rolls with it; you get 24 exposures on a roll of 120. If you check my feed here on Bluesky you'll see a few of those shots!

I haven't, but I've had my eye on the Holga Pano camera. I have a half-frame (6x3) pinhole camera that is currently satisfying my pano urges. :-)

Haha, thanks! There is nothing like it. I went to France last year and brought a Leica and a Holga; the Holga delivered all the magic and everyone loved those photos.

I used an SR 43 battery with a $30 MR-9 adapter, which converts the voltage to the same as the old mercury batteries. The internal meter was spot-on while it worked...I miss having it but obviously an external meter gives you more flexibility (especially in terms of available ISOs).

Ah, good! I got one myself late last year and absolutely love it, although the light meter on mine died after 3 rolls; a cable inside is prone to corrosion and there's a video on youtube showing how to fix it, but I've switched to a shoe-mount meter for now.

Ah, I forgot this is a Pen D, I was thinking Pen F (SLR). It's a very strange artifact. I've seen lots of lines on films but nothing quite like this. I did once have some deep scratches from something inside the camera catching on the film (on a Canon P) but they looked different.

03.03.2026 20:27 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I am now thinking that the strong vertical line in the other photos is not a scratch but something to do with the shutter. I don't know anyone who works on that camera but it might be worth trying to get a CLA and repair.

03.03.2026 19:22 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

That looks better but I still see some faint horizontal lines; those look like scratch marks from the camera. I have a lot of experience with those, I'm sorry to say. The other issues seem to be light leaks but I'm not sure why they affected only certain frames; maybe your shutter is having issues.

03.03.2026 18:20 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

The horizontal lines in the second image could be caused by the camera; many older cameras scratch film. If it keeps happening you should start by using a rocket blower to blow out any dust from inside the camera. Sometimes you have to add tape inside to prevent scratches.

03.03.2026 17:50 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

These are lab-developed, right? I don't think the vertical line could be caused by your camera; the film doesn't run in that direction. That seems more like something scratched the film; if they used a leader retriever to pull out the film maybe there was some detritus on the felt on the canister.

My image "Rockefeller Center Quadtych" will be part of the annual international Krappy Kamera Show that opens tomorrow at the Soho Photo Gallery in NYC. The opening is Thursday and hopefully it'll be at least a temporary distraction from all the current madness. #filmphotography

Thanks for those detailed replies! The Ricoh FF-1 spoiled me for having a trousers-pocketable, quiet film camera. The original Contax T has a similar fold-out lens to the Minox and the Ricoh but anything Contax is expensive. I might try an Olympus XA although they also tend not to last long.
