Quick, someone get Charlie a cowboy hat.

In fairness, The Dark Universe(tm) did begin. It just ended quickly, unceremoniously, and hilariously.
The best chance of stopping the deal is probably state AGs suing to block it.
Huh, didnβt realize that NY Times Pitchbot had moved to Del Ray.

I for one would read the hell out of βRatto renews his drivers license at the DMV.β
Ugh, those heights needed so much more wuthering.
Yes, agreed. Heβs a political shapeshifter who will sell out marginalized groups if he thinks it will net him votes. It should be disqualifying for any candidate to compromise on anyoneβs human rights.
My point is that, while I donβt fault Hasan for answering like he did, the main focus should be on Newsomβs (many) disqualifiers. Letβs talk about why he shouldnβt be nominated, rather than what we might hypothetically do if he is.
Hasan knows that, even if it wasnβt his intention to spark a side conversation over βblue no matter who.β
I donβt think we disagree? The point of declaring βI wonβt vote for X if theyβre nominatedβ is to signal to others in the larger left coalition that they shouldnβt support X in the primary, because theyβll struggle to get leftists and progressives to vote for them in the general.
Better yet, letβs not bother having this conversation at all! All Hasan is trying to do is rally support against Newsom. We donβt need to entertain hypotheticals about what might happen if Newsom gets the nomination, because it hasnβt happened (and hopefully, wonβt).
There are perks to living a life where the public doesnβt despise you.
And yet, Alito sounds smarmy and looks miserable all of the time. Doesnβt seem to be enjoying things very much!
Thereβs such a difference between wants and needs here, on full display. He says he wants big dumb things like establishing a Mars colony. What he needs is to feel cool and funny by people he respects. (And what he really needs is to share connection with people who arenβt, like, Nazis.)
Oh no! Giving Ruby an extra snuggle (which she seems to be⦠tolerating?).
Grady is great! Never would have learned otherwise about how different rates of deposits shape rivers, or why dams are temporary, or what exactly brought the Texas power grid so close to catastrophic failure a few years ago.
Why arrange your PR when you can control media outlets directly? Elite delusions can get forced on us directly now. Love that for us.

Brace for Sufjan Stevens fans flooding the replies.
Can confirm. Itβs all still upsetting, but being so far from the US and immersed in another place does make life less suffocating.
Theyβll never take away my em dash.
Someoneβs really gotta fix that gas leak at The Atlantic. Seems to keep getting worse and worse?
They should, because here thatβs whatβs needed to serve and protect the public. But they wonβt. The sad reality is that police wonβt keep people safe from authoritarian violence. Itβs not a function that the institution of policing is capable of.
None of that sounds realistic, does it? Leave aside how silly it seems to expect a law enforcement officer to intervene against another. Police donβt place themselves in situations where they canβt bring overwhelming force if their orders disobeyed.
When the ICE convoy reached its intended destination, maybe the police officer could ask any masked agents for identification. If ICE agents started breaking down a door or attempting to detain/arrest someone with no warrant, the police officer could demand to see a warrant or note lack of grounds.
Maybe the police officer could try pulling over and citing ICE drivers for traffic violations. Most likely the ICE agents would ignore the police officerβs instructions or cite some exigency.
