To be fair, two German DWs is super confusing! I agree, it's a shame - I have also always wondered what would happen if a bidder that cares more about news rather than influence would go for something like the Telegraph. But then again, we might lose a lot of ridicilous yet entertaining headlines.

By DW, do you mean Die Welt? Because that is quite a far right news outlet itself (a bit like the whole Axel Springer SE). If you mean Deutsche Welle, that is not privately owned but funded by the German state.

I didn't post this yesterday because we were too busy getting our April issue launchedβ€”but I've written a piece in it! It's about a big current in the Atlantic ocean, how it could collapse, and to what extent we, in the UK, are prepared for that.

One point I agree with: taxing the rich was never the big money machine progressives hoped for.

But there is an important part missing here: low taxes on the rich corrode public support for broad-based taxation. This can undermine the fiscal sustainability of the state.

We are happy to release the Paths to Power Dashboard. It is the perfect tool for politics nerds!

You can find it here: ptp.isv.sv.uio.no/ptp/

It allows you to explore governments from 1966-2021 using the PtP and WhoGov datasets. See examples below.

The app has been programmed by Stuart Bramwell.

The hidden cost of low taxes on the super-rich The super-rich pay often pay lower total tax rates than the rest of the population. How do people react - in their tax beliefs - when they find out about this?

The super-rich pay often pay *lower* total tax rates than the rest of the population. How do people respond when they are told about this?

How does tax regressivity at the top affect public support for taxation? In this article, we run an information provision experiment in the United States with a quota-representative sample of around 4,000 people and randomly present respondents with factual information about total tax rates by income group. We find that informing respondents that the superrich pay lower total tax rates than other people not only increases support for raising taxes on the rich but also lowers support for taxing the middle class. Our results highlight an important hidden cost of tax regressivity at the top: if left unaddressed, it risks undermining public support for broad-based taxation.

The hypocrisy of our hard-right β€˜protectors’ Anti-immigrant rioters and vigilante groups say they want to defend women, children and British communitiesβ€”while attacking these very things

I don't often write opinion, but I got fed up seeing examples of men claiming to be the "protectors" of the very people they (sometimes literally) attack.
