Let's get to work!
When historic preservation goes from protecting particularly beautiful and interesting old buildings from demolition to opposing a handsome new apartment building on a surface parking lot, something has gone very wrong.
Aurora without sidewalks
“Early wins…
Install protected walkways on Aurora Ave N”
Let’s do it. Plonk down some concrete barriers and put an end to this civic shame
At some point we will have a conversation about the bogus claim that running a financially successful company equips you for leadership more broadly.
Oh fun! Rico Quirindongo, the director of @seattleopcd.bsky.social followed me!
Director @ricoque-opcd.bsky.social: I don't know if you'll reply, but I will ask you ONE QUESTION A DAY until YOUR planning dept stops putting affordable & social housing ONLY on hazardous, polluted, and noisy roads.
This is funny to me because Vancouver’s suburbs have towers around train stations and it looks wildly popular
It's kind of wild how driving the speed limit feels like an act of resistance against car culture
So I finally got my Lake Washington Boulevard sidewalk repair FOIAs back. Guess what, former Mayor Harrell's administration designated the sidewalk repairs as "low priority." The repairs were slated to happen last summer. www.seattle.gov/parks/about-...
Eastbound 2 Line train departing Judkins Park station.
T-4 weeks to the full 2 Line opening!
Pacific Place Mall Johnny Rockets out of business
I missed the lamentations for Johnny Rockets in Pacific Place mall closing.
They switched from Coke to Pepsi a while ago. The writing was on the wall
Giant screens installed in Pacific Place Mall in downtown Seattle
One of multiple broke. Escalators in Pacific Place Mall in downtown Seattle
This feels like a metaphor for life these days
Pacific Place adds giant screens but can’t have working escalators
Surely @treeaction-seattle.bsky.social will be all over advocating against these cuts
Surely, those cars weren’t parked there after 11a, right? RIGHT!?
Alki Point Healthy street

Line at new Cane’s in UW University District, Seattle
I’m originally from Texas and I like Cane’s, but it is not worthy of this
People really struggling with the idea that the Iranian government sucks but we shouldn't be bombing them can both be true, eh?
Pike Place crowded with pedestrians and no cars
Pike Place Market looking like this on a Saturday in February is exactly why it needs to be car-light/car-free year round
Not too bad. The streetlights here make it look pretty goofy though
The traffic cone is what really makes this photo
OMFG FINALLY LETS GOOOOOOO!!!!! 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
The richest man owns X.
The second and third richest men control Google.
The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post.
And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros.
See the problem here?
And any transfers at East Main would have to cross the tracks directly which doesn’t exactly speed things up
Yea, I work near East Main and transfer to the 550 at South Bellevue so I use both stations quite a bit and the idea that East Main would be a transfer station is laughable.
East Main feels like a cute after thought for hopes of redevelopment nearby. South Bellevue is a workhorse
link to study showing how new units create flow of residents into newer higher quality units, freeing up additional units below market rates https://www.sciencedirect.com/journal/journal-of-urban-economics
People ask, 'How can a house sell for X, get torn down, then townhomes replace it, and all sell also for X?"
1) new const costs more per SF (like a new car vs used car) and 2) the real gain is not in the new unit, but in the 'vacancy chain' of people moving up into higher quality housing.
South Bellevue is a park & ride station with a network of bus bays, a large, workable footprint, a center platform, and little else to offer in terms of TOD due to the adjacent slough.
East Main is a small at-grade station sandwiched between a busy road and a neighborhood with ped track crossings
Besides it being a backtracking trip between Seattle to Issaquah, anyone who has been to East Main and South Bellevue can tell you one of them is easily and clearly a transfer station and one of them is not.
I understand the cost implications but missing this connection would just be so dumb
The connection at South Bellevue makes a lot more sense imo
“I want the legacy of this team to be remembered.”
I know this is...unthinkable...but it may be time to saw a few of the Sacred Westlake Bricks™️.
Route 554 is already a pretty direct route between Issaquah and the ST Board meetings. Jokes aside, it is great to see Issaquah following in Redmond’s footsteps by proactively supporting Link and planning to build more housing around the planned station (in contrast to Bellevue and Mercer Island).
