My gramps told me his mother was mad if she found him reading in the bed before sleep.

Gives kinda similar vibes with "no screen time before bed" of today.

Bosna i Hercegovina is clearly Belgium, they even have their own capital region with bipolar disorder, and multiple dysfunctional governments.

For russian Cyrill there are 12 "shapesakes". The russian number plates use only those.

"norma" spelled in Latin cursive script

Once in Slovenia I have read a shop sign which was saying "ΠΏΠΎΡ‡Ρ‚Π°" (rus: post) in Cyrillic cursive. But in a second I realised it was "norma" in Latin cursive.

As someone living in Belgium I agree and disagree. From the outside it might seem like this indeed. But from the inside: people are just multilingual because of the environment.

The most impressive thing I have witnessed is an Indian IT worker in Saudi Arabia piling up on chicken in the Al Baik fastfood chain, in order to bring it home to his friend back in India.

The Pakistani and Indians' obsession with Al Baik chicken in S. Arabia is something I still cannot understand.

This doesn't compute, unfortunately. If anything it makes me even more worried that at a certain point the investors will start looking for their returns, and will squeeze you out, change the management and ruin your company in the process :(

Originally they were invited by queen Catherine the Great (who was German herself) to settle in the Volga region (-> Volga Germans). Then during WWII Stalin was like "what of these Germans sabotage us from the inside?" So they were deported to Siberia (-> Siberian Germans).

Siberian Germans somehow still exist. Probably not "thanks to" but rather "despite".

The World Factbook, also known as the CIA World Factbook, was a reference resource produced by the United States' Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) with almanac-style information about the countries of the world.

I like the idea of calling American music a-pop, a-rock, etc, and American shows a-drama.

Slightly off topic about diff utilities. Apparently `diff3` is the one of two remaining GNU tools used in the FreeBSD codebase. The other one is `dialog`.
