It's really important we hear from voices in countries increasingly leading the transition and likely to suffer the worst from climate.
Not just because it's inclusive, but also because it gives us a more accurate sense of where things are and where they might go.
This is a great read, and I don't disagree with @dwallacewells.bsky.social's conclusions.
But it'd be nice when you're reflecting on world climate politics to actually include voices from...around the world.

One of many excellent graphics in a new report from RMI on rising utility costs and regulatory tools to keep them in check #energysky: rmi.org/insight/a-st...
๐ฏ there's an initiative at RMI focused on hyper-efficient, next gen AC technology - aimed primarily at countries like India with huge projected cooling demand in the near-future

From a technical PoV, Indonesia is potentially better positioned for the transition, as the grid is oversupplied
There's a ton of raw RE potential. Key thing to watch is whether future regs enable RE profitability - which is the fundamental challenge
This seems very cool and Jesse is a leading expert on the South African transition, hope others can join!
Still facing a dearth of local voices, but here's a starting point for folks whose work touches on the Asian energy transition --> go.bsky.app/AcmKEwb

Anyway, excited to be here, learn from others, and build a global community of folks moving the transition forward!
Don't be shy, say hi ๐

In another life, I've worked on:
> Help shift util incentives in the US - check out this great pod my colleague did w/ @volts.wtf - www.volts.wtf/p/tying-util...
> Help make utility data more accessible - utilitytransitionhub.rmi.org/customers-co...

Some examples!
Country-level support: rmi.org/insight-from...
Pilot work: rmi.org/finding-repu...
Some select insights:
> Decarbonizing fiendishly challenging coal contracts - rmi.org/insight/unlo...
> How finance can be credibly used to decarbonize legacy coal - rmi.org/insight/fina...

We do this through:
> Country-level roadmapping and implementation (e.g., JETPs)
> Originating and pre-feasibility of strategically critical pilots
> Share insights to generate and socialize decarb options
> Convene, coordinate w/, and support local partners so we eventually become redundant

We support/lead in three ways:
1. Making the case for and support new clean over 1+ TW of new fossil buildout
2. Help decarbonize legacy fossil assets affordably
3. Help prove out and scale tech to integrate variable RE
Great to see engagement and additions to this pack! (pls continue to provide addtl recs!)
Thought it made sense to more fully introduce myself now! My team at RMI supports and advances the power sector transition in various emerging markets.
Here's how we do it and what we've done

Of course! Will do, and great to meet you
Of course! Good to meet you, I'll add you to it
Trying to diversify the energy conversation here on Bsky a bit. First up, a starter pack for those working broadly in the area of energy and development (or poverty alleviation):

Let me know if Iโve missed anyone.
These are great ideas!
Amazing, adding you now! And yes, please suggest others!
@rishpardikar.bsky.social
@akshatrathi.bsky.social
@guayjg.bsky.social
@chrislittlecott.bsky.social and others!
Would appreciate recs on folks I've missed who should be on here!
Pls tag the right folks (or yourself), invite Asia-focused climate/energy wonks on here, and we'll grow this thing together!
As you'll see, there is a *dearth* of local voices and I'm hoping we can invite folks + grow this community over time!
I also wanted to get more specific with regions, and avoid the all-encompassing, all-flattening "Global South" framing
Heya #EnergySky! Exciting to see the recent momentum on here.
Energy Twitter was great, but something we can improve on with v2 is to have a broader set of voices from outside the US - where the fight on climate will be won or lost.
A very early, incomplete start to this ->

Okay, good to know it's not just me! Thank you
This thread is fantastic, thank you!
Any chance you/someone would have starter packs for climate/energy folks working in Asia?
Hi, Rachit here! Working on helping emerging markets around the world power as much of their growth from cheap, clean power as possible!
Also worked on reforming utility incentives, on state-level coal transition, and on making utility data freely available - in the US!
