Great to catch up with Alexander Mikaberidze and hear his paper on the Global Impact of the Napoleonic Wars at the History of War seminar in Oxford.

Back last night from a fantastic trip to Spain and Southern France looking at the battlefields of the Peninsular War.

Battles looked at included, amongst others:
- Vitoria
- Maya
- Roncesvalles
- Sorauren
- San Sebastián
- Bidassoa
- Nivelle
- Nive
- Orthez
- Tarbes
- Bayonne

Very pleased to have been invited to talk to the officers of the Scots Guards at the weekend, ahead of their ‘Black Sunday’.

The talk looked at the experience of the 1st Battalion 3rd Foot Guards during the Peninsular War.

Useful to share some of my research on the Scottish Enlightenment and some
great new contacts made.

Recently back from a great trip taking the staff from Headquarters 20th Armoured Brigade around the battlefields of Normandy.

I learnt a lot on how the current staff system works and was well looked after by Brig Adam Foden DSO MBE and all the team. Lots of food for thought for my ongoing research!
