Recent work by Stefanie Stantcheva confirms an old argument by Robert Shiller: people don't think of wage rises and price increases as part of a common process, they attribute wages to their own efforts and prices as an external imposition.
No doubt linked to downward nominal wage rigidity
Responding to follow along. But Iβve been wondering about this also & how it connects to the argument in βWhy Wages Don't Fall during a Recessionβ that firms resist lowering wages because of the morale effect.
If nominal wage cuts are perceived as punishment then wage gains are perceived as reward?
