If they don’t it’s on me, not them.

Someone needs to make a law that the Porterhouse Temple Bar can never change. I love this pub.
Surprising to me when I see screenshots from twitter, can’t believe they’re still posting on it.
In better pub news, happy Friday.
The State of the Union has a whole other meaning when it I say it in my North Dublin accent.
Another advantage of not being on twitter is I don’t get to see this lads posts anymore. I lost some accounts I enjoyed following, but plenty more that just wound me up. I haven’t seen that pepper lads poison in at least a year.
For those tracking the contemporary decline in beer drinking and pub going, @iamreddave.bsky.social reckons one factor is/will be weightloss drugs: liveatthewitchtrials.blogspot.com/2026/02/off-...
This is a necessary fillip given most Irish league games are being cancelled because apparently Ireland now suffers a monsoon season
Very sloppy.
Color photo of Michael Jordan dunking from the free throw line during the 1988 slam dunk contest. The photo catches him midway between the free throw line and the basket. His legs are bent, his left arm trailing behind, and the ball is cocked back in his right hand. Thousands of people fill the stands behind him, all staring at his slow motion flight through the air.
It was #OTD in 1988. Should be landing any minute now.
People think Tesla’s sales are tanking because the owner is a wanker (definitely a big factor). But seems to get overlooked that their cars boring and they have been overtaken by all the other electric car manufacturers 🤷🏻♂️
Have been asked by a couple of publicans this week if we are also putting our prices up. Assume they are all doing new menus/price lists as a result of the big two putting their prices up. We are not.
A new page on the blog lists beer festivals potentially happening across Ireland in 2026. Dates for these festivals haven't yet been published but if you know any festival where dates have been made public or I've missed any festival, let me know. Cheers 🍻

A pub covered in graffiti and the same pub renovated.
2015 and 2026: When I took the top photo of the derelict Lord Napier pub in east London, I joked that it would probably reopen as a craft beer place. I wasn't far off.

Anyway with less and less people drinking pints, assuming the big breweries are going to have to increase profits from a smaller number of people, the only obvious answer is constant price increases.
There’s a lot of people that will only buy the most expensive beer on the bar. They consider cheaper beer, worse beer, which isn’t necessarily the case. So in some ways it’s a race to the top.
Your annual reminder that “Blue Monday” is a complete fiction invented by a company that wanted to sell you more holidays.
Enjoy January! It’s quiet and cosy and time for semi-hibernation, reflection and being kind to yourself!
Happy Friday, pub nerds.
Fair play to the big breweries for the constant price increase. It helps keep smaller breweries like out sustainable, and keep our pricing competitive.
So my business partner @briantreacy.bsky.social looks after the Instagram, he takes a great picture and it means people that are kind enough to follow the brewery on multiple channels get different content.
I still really enjoy this format, and as much as I like looking at Instagram, I don’t have an eye for a photo, and I hate taking the time to take them when I’m in company.
Something we might have done if a different approach had been taken at the time, and it hadn’t taken a distinctly dark turn. I’m now looking forward to seeing if I can build the brewery account back up to a decent level on here.
The brewery had over 10k followers on Twitter, I’d say it was a massive part of growing our business between 2010 and 2020. Was happy enough to walk away in 2024, partly because it was pretty obvious the new owner was a prick, it had also stopped being effective unless you were willing to to pay.
Can’t believe I’ve never been! It’s on the list for 2026!
Amazing, thank you 🙏
Well, would you look at that!!!
Hahaha, the irony! Assume they’re just mad because we don’t give them any money. Surly pictures of pints is not where they draw the line? Did Side Show Bobby not just say pints are good for you?
A skeleton with a book and a beer.
Friday means it's almost time to sit back with a good book and a beer. Or you could read my new blog post about Irish porter: thebeernut.blogspot.com/2026/01/unho...
