Records obtained by @insideclimatenews.org show this isn't the first time the proposed mine has had contaminant issues with its water discharge. But it is the first time the public was made aware of it, though only after local watchdogs tracking EPA data noticed an issue.
Scoop: The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has launched an investigation into South32’s proposed Hermosa mine over a contaminant its water discharge.
The mine was the first added to the FAST-41 program, which essentially fast tracks projects.
