Lake Powell, Lake Mead and the entire Colorado River system is at risk of collapse without action.
Nevada officials are so frustrated and worried over the lack of progress on Colorado River negotiations, they've broken from the other Lower Basin states and proposed their own solution: www.reviewjournal.com/local/local-... via @alanhalaly.bsky.social

Built to Fail: Rules at UN Climate Talks Favor the Status Quo, Not Progress - Inside Climate News
Experts say stifling bureaucratic procedures that are disconnected from the climate crisis have consistently stalled COP negotiations.
Status quo gonna be the death of us. Just sayin ...
At the annual UNFCCC climate talks, success is partly measured by how well everyone can ignore the fact that the world is burning outside ...

In case anyone's wondering how Jeff Bezos feels about climate policy these days, the Washington Post editorial board just heartily endorsed Trump ripping up the EPA's "endangerment finding," which allows the federal government to regulate greenhouse gases as pollutants.

US court allows ICE to arrest and pepper-spray peaceful protestors in Minnesota
Appeals Court Stays Restrictions on Federal Tactics in Minnesota
The Eighth Circuit granted the Trump administrationβs request to block, at least for now, a lower courtβs injunction limiting how federal agents interact with protesters in the state.
One court decision, two different headlines.

It's just wild to see in the federal government's own models how close the nation's second largest reservoir is to losing hydropower production, potentially for months on end in early 2027.
Is the plan to just drain Flaming Gorge, Blue Mesa and Navajo to keep it propped up another year?

DOE sees bigger role for climate contrarians, records show
A small team of researchers who dispute mainstream climate science may play an outsize role in the next National Climate Assessment.
NEW: I obtained internal emails from the Department of Energy's climate working group. They show the group plotting to produce a second misleading climate report, DOE officials avoiding public disclosure laws, DOE peer reviewers stating they weren't qualified: www.eenews.net/articles/doe...

Colorado River Water Is Too Cheap, Particularly for Agricultural Users - Inside Climate News
A new report from UCLA and the Natural Resources Defense Council found nearly a quarter of Colorado River water is basically provided for free by the federal government.
βWe are effectively giving away from the Colorado River millions of acre-feet per year, free of charge, or nearly free of charge,β said a co-author of a new UCLA and NRDC report on the price of Colorado River water.
In fact, many big users pay nothing.
