Just noticed that the Vulture YouTube is posting the fuller versions of my Sundance interviews. Enjoy. youtu.be/a2naYIg8QAI?...
i love @angelicabastien.bsky.social’s writing a lot but this is a particular banger of a sentence
I wrote about my time at Sundance. open.substack.com/pub/angelica...
Saw this clip from that interview floating around and had to share 🙂
A screenshot of a Vulture instagram story of moi, Angelica Jade, on the left in a tan leather chair wearing leopard print speaking animatedly to Ethan Hawke in double denim with his hands in a prayer formation.
I interviewed Ethan Hawke today at Sundance. How’s y’all’s day going?? @vulture.com
I’m so glad I am not online enough to have to acknowledge or deal with the absolutely garbage dumb pop culture takes that plague the internet from people who don’t read or have any understanding of how to interpret/read film. 😇 I only hear about this shit secondhand.
@angelicabastien.bsky.social wrote a great piece: www.vulture.com/article/blac...
Newsletter dropping this weekend about Die My Love and how pop culture, particularly film, continues to fail the narrative possibilities of the millennial madwoman.
A picture of a Bluesky post with the handle crossed out in hot pink of a Babylon 5 fan in a Star Trek thread lying with the following quote: “*cough* babylon 5 was better anyway *scampers away*
Why are Babylon 5 fans like this?
Much love to the best Wonder Woman not on a printed page!

With One Battle After Another winning big at the Globes last night, it's the perfect time to read @angelicabastien.bsky.social's fantastic analysis of the film and Teyana Taylor's fantastic performance that provides an interiority the script often lacks

Betty was one of the most generous people I had the privilege of interviewing. An extraordinary person who lived an extraordinary life.
Celebrity drama as discourse can be useful to help us unpack together what are really cultural problems playing out in particularly visible people’s interpersonal relations. It’s the worship of them when we forget they’re just like us & contribute to enriching them that’s the issue.
I hope you get something worthwhile from both!
My latest essay @vulture.com is a performance review focused on Rose Byrne. Dig it.

We're back on Deep Space 9 today in a scene with Odo and Luaxana Troi (Daughter of the Fifth House, Holder of the Sacred Chalice of Rixx, Heir to the Holy Rings of Betazed). Luaxana is wearing bright red and has very blonde hair, all gussied up for something. Odo, famously smooth, is looking extra extra smooth here wearing a spicy light brown on darker brown little number. Screenshot one on Odo, caption reads,"Every 16 hours I turn into a liquid." Screenshot two on Luaxana, caption reads, "I can swim."
Alts in pic 1!

This is just one example, but this story is the perfect example of why mediocre white guys are against DEI and this is the “American Dream” they’re trying to preserve. This is the “western culture” they want to protect, and anti-discrimination laws and policies destroy that.

Worf in dad jeans and a shark shirt directing DS9 is the timeline cleanse you didn’t know you needed 🖖
Tokyo Godfathers is now available to watch on the Criterion Channel ❤️
“We’ll just have to make more indies!” is a statement made by people who absolutely do not understand how tough indie film financing is right now 🫠 (See my post about FLESH OF THE GODS being unable to find financing; the recent Variety article about the impossibility of indie producing as a career)
I was in a ridiculous meeting once where the goal was to define what a franchise meant for Netflix films. I have never wanted to hurl myself into the ocean more than during that meeting. I think they bought WB so they can inherit proven franchises instead of doing the work of developing them.
the issue here, especially with TCM, is more than half of its programming came from the Turner, and later WB, library. If you remove the network from the library, how is it going to afford to license 100% of its programming?
