Happy #SummerSolstice!
After a cloud-filled week, today my mood jumped w/ the sun. And not just me...nature can benefit us all.
Access to natural light, greenery, & fresh air:
1.β¬οΈstress
2.β¬οΈhealing
3.β¬οΈburnout
Today, let's consider how we can bring nature back into healthcare.

...and understandable to only those who've had 10,000 hours of training as a dad.
For Fathers everywhere, my ode to you & our dad jokes.
As I write in this Green Leap blog post:
"So hereβs to the βdad joke,β the unsung hero of humor. May it continue to thrive, bringing smiles and eye rolls to families for generations to come."

Thank you to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for inviting me to present my keynote "Radiology Futures in the Planetary Age".
This topic was a great way to honor the legacy of Dr. Fleischner, as well as your graduating residents & fellows!
Thanks, @erictopol.bsky.social, for this running list.
We are all aware of the reduce--reuse--recycle mantra of sustainability.
Opportunistic imaging is the reuse of imaging for another purpose...with AI helping detect completely unrelated findings.
Yet another way radiology can be sustainable.
What a great idea!

Picture of the Pearl showing the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Charlotte.
πCharlotte was the largest U.S. city without a 4-year medical school.
We just changed that.
Welcome to The Pearl, home to the most innovative med school in the country, the Charlotte campus of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

This photo popped up on my phone today...
It was taken exactly 5 years ago at Lake Nickajack, TN. This was our first family trip after pandemic lockdown.
I can't believe how much our world has changed over those years: Pandemic, work from home, AI, cultural divisions, wars.
Lots to reflect on!
Look forward to picking it up! I've read and really enjoyed his last 2 books.
Calm.

Health is non-partisan.
And actuarial science is immune to ideology.
We entered healthcare to take care of patients. Protecting communities & the planet is another way to do so.

Is this a healthcare waiting room or the DMV?
It can be hard to tell...both are known for long waits, crowded rooms, & variable customer service. It need not be that way.
Human-centered design begins w/ empathy.
