A fox stops in my path and studies me with the cold patience of something that knew this hillside before roads. Eye to eye his narrow amber blade resting against the soft circle of mine. He holds me there. For a moment I feel it my bones rearranging into something clumsy. My breath too loud. My bare skin foolish to the air. A tall creature arguing with sky and ground. He studies me a moment longer before releasing my eyes. As if I’m the creature misplaced in time.

Poem
In another life I was someone else.
I can remember everything,
but I don't understand any of it.
I don't speak the language.
My regressionist said that's not uncommon.
I don't feel as if this is helping me
decide whether to take the job in Denver.
Work has been insane, especially for the past couple of weeks, and I will never understand why organizational leadership insists upon demanding staff keep working as if business as usual when nothing in the larger world is normal right now.
