the cope for how quickly this war ends is starting to feel a bit like the “oh we’re gonna shelter in place for 2 weeks and then the pandemic will be over” moment

a yougov poll showing reform at 23%, green at 21%, and labour, cons, and lib dems between 14-16%
if the greens really are in second in the uk, and the establishment parties are at the bottom, this will make for a wild election
i think in about two to three weeks, we’re gonna get flooded with anxiety-driven nudes, like spring/summer 2020
Pete Docter, chief creative officer at Pixar and director of "Monsters Inc." "Up" and "Inside Out," gives his reasoning on why the studio cut the LGBTQ storyline from 2025's "Elio": "We're making a movie, not hundreds of millions of dollars of therapy."
what an asshole, time to skip the new one
i don’t know what’s gonna happen with people accustomed to uber and doordash when gasoline prices skyrocket, but maybe if you’re already happy to incinerate money on these services what’s another 20% more?
bulgogi bibimbap, japchae, and kimbap
one of the easiest feel good moments for me is eating at a mum-and-pop restaurant. it just hits different with good food and supporting locals
Have a lover caress you the way the Canadian establishment caresses John Tory.
very happy with this vibe, very mid-to-late 2010s, seat at the table, freudian youtu.be/3eVO0fBS8zo
so maybe it’s the best week you had multiplied by 52, but hey why not just take your best day and multiply that by 365.
when you see reported numbers for openAI and anthropic’s revenue, do not put much faith in them. better yet, tell your parents and grandparents to not have much faith in them 😅
one of the funniest tricks in tech is ARR, or annualized recurring revenue. rather than totalling up revenue for the past 12 months, you create a projection.
it used to be most recent month times 12, assuming continued momentum, but now it’s just cherry-picked timeframe expanded to a year lol
the price of oil surging means you can burn your shein clothes, extract the oil, and make more money than you paid
maybe spain or ireland, places that signal that international law still might mean something
i think in a week or two, the skyrocketing price of jet fuel is gonna make flying overseas out of reach for most common people.
obviously do your own research but if you need to travel this year you may want to look into locking in the price sooner rather than later
i think a lot about how he and bad bunny both dated jenners, and the difference when one has the wits to leave that family and one willingly chooses to stay
reading the news of contractors viewing sensitive footage from the meta glasses, well, duh. your default should be assuming the sloppiest use of your data, because these companies do not have your back. if you don’t mind strangers seeing you naked or your credit card info, then dive in lol
To those at the back:
Black & brown faces in high places won’t save us, to borrow from Prof Ruha Benjamin.
I’d add,
Black & brown faces upholding white systems in global north advance careers. Proximity to power from skin folk (not kin folk) make our labour to dismantle power structures challenging.
at this point i’ve seriously weighed a future move to asia, including cities where i’d have to learn the language from scratch. the writing is on the wall that nearly every western country’s government wants to regress in terms of racism, so why stay when i could find a more welcome home elsewhere
and like, i’m not glazing canada here either. literally this country is run by four corporations in a trenchcoat and the people here cling to the fumes of Come From Away as arbiters of our goodness lol
land of rugged individualism! so if cuba is next, at some point if there is not major demonstrations it’s sort of a tacit approval or apathy, no?
Hala Rharrit, who resigned from the State Department in protest during the Biden administration, says she and many others warned the Gaza genocide would eventually spark a regional war with Iran unless the U.S. reined in Israel.

when future historians compare today to the vietnam war, it’ll be interesting to see what media from this time they use to illustrate dissatisfaction
Make no mistake: Dario Amodei is a full-throated supporter of war, and Claude is being used in Iran as we speak. Dario Amodei believes part of Anthropic's purpose is "defeating autocratic adversaries," and otherwise "doesn't have views."

looks like talarico won
for reference, the us stock markets climbed 50-60% from april lows.
what’s wild about the s. korean market is that degen investors (well, gamblers) can buy a 3x etf, which exploded 25x from april to the peak (eg $1,000 to $25,000). the hope is they got out before this unwind
we will likely see stocks fall in the us for a third day in a row, and it’ll be anyone’s guess if that’s sufficient to unleash some taco-like behaviour during this uncertainty
screenshot of s. korea’s stock market going parabolic in the past year
screenshot of the decline over the past 2 days
a lot of stock markets outside the us have gone parabolic, such as s. korea nearly tripling since april lows, led by surges in memory stocks.
but now with greater uncertainly and the ai story fading, it’s dropped almost 1,000 points in two days, 16% off its all-time high. weird times we’re in
Wow: In the early vote, it's a blow-out *so far*.
Rodney Sadler, the progessive pastor and activist, leads state Representative Carla Cunningham 75% to 18%.
(Stay tuned as we see how the Election Day vote compares, but that's an ominous start for the incumbent.)
Context:
as messy as the texas senate primary has been on the dem side, if crockett loses, it’ll hopefully point to the waning power of harris (and that late-game endorsement)
my rauw dreams come one step closer
so dubai was just fyre festival for the 0.1% huh lol
