Endlessly grateful to the many people who helped make this possible. Here is a link to my beloved Carmichaelβs for purchasing! www.carmichaelsbookstore.com/book/9780197...
Life highlight: riding my bike to purchase The Iron Horse in Indian Country from my favorite local bookstore! Somehow it arrived there before my author copies? Thrilled it is out in the world!
βThe termination of your grant represents an urgent priority for this administrationβ
My NEH grant has been terminated
Incredible when the funding for your book about the educational culture wars is cut as a result of the educational culture wars
You canβt say history isnβt relevant
"I don't want a Disney vacation of our history! I don't a whitewashed history, I don't want a homogenized history. Tell me the wretched truth about America, because that speaks to our greatness" -- 20 hours into his speech, Cory Booker is spitting absolute π₯
Authoritarianism relies on a re-writing of history. We find them cooking up falsehoods of past to better feed their falsehoods of present.
I join the chorus of historians alarmed and outraged by this and am glad to see the AHA and others speaking out.
Heinous.
And Paul High Horse (Sicangu Lakota) produced this beautiful work for our 2016 gathering in Omaha.
Amanda Francom (Northwestern Band Shoshone) painted this beautiful piece for the Utah gathering.

Excellent 101 second summary βGreenland was not for sale and itβs still not for saleβ and centering Indigenous perspectives with Professor Asta Monstad ποΈ
5. I am a co-facilitator of Railroads in Native America, an award-winning public history project that is near and dear to my heart. Our third and final gathering will take place in Sacramento in spring 2026. You can learn more about it here: indian.utah.gov/events/railr....
4.5. I'd love to talk with anyone and everyone about the book, so please reach out!
4. I wrote a book! It was an honest TRIAL to get it off the ground while teaching full time, but I made it a priority. The Iron Horse in Indian Country: Native Americans and Railroads in the US West is out this spring with Oxford University Press! More here: global.oup.com/academic/pro...
3. My research and teaching align when it comes to the role of AI in education. I am reading a lot about this (send suggestions!) and am bringing AI into my classrooms more and more.
2. In 2019, I turned down a tt-job, and in 2021, I made the move to K-12 education. I teach American Studies, Human Rights, and Women in History to upperclass students. They give me a lot of hope these days.
If there are graduate students interested in this transition, please see me as a resource!
Hi, everyone! I am finally Bluesky-ing (is this a verb we use here?)! A little bit about me:
1. I am a historian trained in the American West and Indigenous histories. When it comes to research and writing, I tend to think a lot about relationships between culture, technology, and the enviro.
6. I look forward to connecting and following the conversations (in as much as this platform can foster conversation. . ) unfolding here!
Iβm thrilled to share that Native Nations has won the Bancroft Prize www.nytimes.com/2025/03/05/a...
