On January 1, 1804, revolutionaries established the independent country of Haiti, the first nation to permanently ban slavery. As we begin a year engulfed by the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence, it’s worth reading the Haitian Declaration of Independence in full. 🇭🇹

I've been lucky enough to do a bunch of podcasts, interviews, and talks, but the two events that have been the most memorable were a talk that I gave at the Embassy of the Republic of Haiti and a panel at the @miamibookfair.bsky.social --these were truly special events!!
The book received an honorable mention for the Haitian Studies Association (@haitianstudies.bsky.social) biennial book prize and was included on the Times Literary Supplement (@thetls.bsky.social) 2025 Books of the Year!
