CMS sees splashes of protons in the detector: beams of protons are whizzed around the #LHC and crash into a barrier just before the CMS detector! We use these splashes to calibrate the detector before starting full particle collisions, due to take place in the coming days.
The CMS Inner Tracker team has tested the new silicon pixel detector modules at the CERNβs #HiRadMat (High Radiation to Materials) facility, in order to evaluate any potential damage to the detector in case of beam loss at #HiLumiLHC!
