Its not really independent, the Liberals removed their senators from their caucus. But its still largely divided along party lines.

Its undemocratic insofar as it's unelected, but ours isn't obstructionist. They review, occasionally amend legislation, but theyre mostly a rubber stamp. We dont see regular filibuster or archaic rules stopping legislation from even being debated.
