Every time I see an SF story with the premise "the Earth is fucked so we have to go terraform somewhere else to live," I can't help but ask: why do we not use that technology to, y'know, terraform *where we already live* back to habitability?

In general I believe that workers of all kinds should be allowed and even mandated to take breaks, but it's particularly lovely when the roofers currently tearing the shingles off my house do so, because then I get a few blessed minutes of quiet.

After 12 years and editing close to a thousand different writers, I've learned there are two edits that will transform a perfectly pleasant human into a nearly homicidal figure:
- Suggesting that a non-grammatical comma used as a pause could be cut.
- Changing an American's use of "grey" to "gray."
