Every time I see an SF story with the premise "the Earth is fucked so we have to go terraform somewhere else to live," I can't help but ask: why do we not use that technology to, y'know, terraform *where we already live* back to habitability?

<sigh> And now I also have to nuke spam comments on my AO3 fanfics. Thanks, AI!
Day three: success in getting foam earplugs seated properly so they don't get knocked out by my pillow! I put them in as soon as I heard construction noise, and slept blissfully until my alarm. π
π±indeed!!!
Day two of constant clamor as we re-roof the house: my right eyelid keeps twitching . . .
In general I believe that workers of all kinds should be allowed and even mandated to take breaks, but it's particularly lovely when the roofers currently tearing the shingles off my house do so, because then I get a few blessed minutes of quiet.
I'm in here with a story written as a prize for a charity auction . . . which I finally wrote a decade *after* that auction; good thing the winner was a friend with a lot of patience π

After 12 years and editing close to a thousand different writers, I've learned there are two edits that will transform a perfectly pleasant human into a nearly homicidal figure:
- Suggesting that a non-grammatical comma used as a pause could be cut.
- Changing an American's use of "grey" to "gray."
This is Beau. He is a textbook example of a golden retriever. They really will try to be friends with anyone. 13/10 for both (IG: beaugoesoutside)
I have worked with Clockpunk for over a decade and would absolutely recommend working with them.
Really not loving how @adobe.com will advertise its AI bullshit to me six times on one screen, but I have to go digging to find the option to download my file.

Yes, easily! Mind if I DM you?
From the Department of Totally Normal Saturday Night Questions: is there anybody who could help me with the grammar on a short Proto-Indo-European phrase?
Almost like I really love writing that sort of caper or something π

@boskone.bsky.social. As promised, here are the recommendations for reading more heist plot structure stories.
Besides his own books:
The Oldest Trick by Auston Habershaw
Faceless Galaxy by Auston Habershaw
@aahabershaw.bsky.social also recommended...
I got to read an early copy of THE EYE OF LEVIATHAN by @alychelms.bsky.social and @swantower.bsky.social (aka M. A. Carrick). Excellent historical fantasy. Alternate Golden Age Spain, changelings, politics, wonders, intrigue. Put it on your lists!

I appreciate the recs! Cannot remotely agree with the one for "Four and a Half Vulcans," though; that episode was *offensively* bad.
Today's excellent discovery is that if you mouse open the menu for "ask an AI chatbot" in Firefox, one of your options there is "remove AI chatbot."

This local Wolfdog joined an Olympic ski event and triggered the finish-line camera. This is Nazgul. He snuck into a cross-country skiing sprint this morning and raced the homestretch with some competitors before being escorted home. 14/10 someone get him a medal
So I've shared this thread already, but also wanted to pull this out specifically because the pattern decks are *awesome* - and also, it turns out, incredibly good and flavourful for fortune-telling at LARP if you have a ref team who're okay with you using them and a setting they work in.
With @smallwondersmag.com you do have to look issue by issue: smallwondersmag.com/issues/
